...I'm sure we'll find out soon. Tomlin's got some explaining to do.

So who designed that play? I'm just curious. Did it come from Special Teams coach? I wasn't even thinking about the fact that it technically wasn't even an offensive play.

Who designed it? Pretty sure it was a leftover from Whiz's playbook.

    Post Game comment:

Can you talk about the fake field goal and how it paid off on the defensive stop?

I took a shot and the guys backed my play like I knew they would. I appreciate that. They overcome bad coaching sometimes. That’s on me. The Giants did a nice job. I tip my hat to Tom Quinn and that group over there on the special teams unit. They were ready for it. They did a nice job.

Like I said during the gameday thread, I'm pretty sure I read Tomlin's lips during the measurement, and he said "It's your call. It's your call". Who he was talking to in his mic...I'm not sure. It would seem that he was conferring with his OC. I'll have a better idea when I rewatch the game.

Passing the buck is no way to run a team. I'm glad it worked out for him.

Cowher did it with the surpise offside in the SB against Dallas but in the end it didn't matter much anyways.

No matter who called the play it was retarded. That close the smartest most efficient play was a QB sneak with your 250+ plus QB. Ben gets 1.5+ per sneak and surely could get that with no injury. To ask your kicker to get those yds was moronic and risked the health a decent kicker.

Yes, much smarter to run the risk of injuring your franchise QB. You think the Steelers are the first ones to ever run a sneak with the kicker? It was a gamble and it didn't work, big deal. Tomlin said he trusted his defense to get the ball back and they did and then they scored anyway.

If Sepulveda could've stayed healthy that play could've worked by letting Sep just pick it up and run with it from the holder position. He could've put his shoulder down to get the yard where Suisham can not do that.

Are we really talking about who can run harder between the kicker and the punter?

How about in the future we stay away from these types of stupid decisions?

I think that may have tipped their hand a little :hehehe: Although I think the Giants knew it was coming anyway.

Would have been a better call if it was further back and Suisham had more grass to run....

In that situation though you definitely have to run Redman or QB keeper....

I wouldn't have had an issue with a field goal try OR say a run up the gut with Redman. I don't think it was the time or place for a trick play.

I like the call to try something tricky there but not the play itself. Would have been perfect to flip it to SS and have him pitch it towards the goal line and one of the TE's or RB's. I like the call because it showed aggression and a willingness to win something we have talked about and debated since the Titans game. Go for the tie or go for the win. I liked the call just needed a better play

you don't call that play on 4th and a half yard while being close to the end zone. You call it on a 4th and 4 or so with a lot of field between the line of scrimmage and the end zone. Too much congestion at the line to call that in that field position.

Once again you have to wonder? I am tired of wondering with him.
Thank goodness he has had the horses in his career,
God knows his strategy/clock mgmt. has not won us too many games.

Passing the buck? He took full responsability for the call in the post game PC.
By the way what is a suprise offsides?

That's what I was yelling to my dad about. It's fourth and short, just pound it with Redman or a QB sneak.

That's the type of play you do when you're trying a longer field goal and have about 5 yards to go for the first down, IMO.

It was a great call ,if the Giants would have played it normal the kicker could have walked in,,Miller had his guy and normally the edge guy goes for the block....It is sill good to get this on tape, because if our kicker can throw at all Miller will be wide open next time....It also may save us a blocked kick later as Teams will remember that play...

With all the above said ,,,I would have went with Redman instead...So I liked the play call and the play design it had a great chance of success ,but I like the Impose your will type of stuff the most....I think kicking the FG would have been the worse thing to do,,,that would have been a settle play ,at least we called a we are going to Beat you guys play the other Team just made a great play it''s that simple...

We never lost our fire,,so I would think the Team stayed pumped up and where better served knowing the Coach was trying to take the lead.....

Because they didn't play it as they normally would, something tells me they had a feeling it was coming.

Did you missed the games where the coaching decisions and time management were good? Try not to sum up Tomlin's coaching career based on the bad coaching decisions he made. Not one coach gets every decisions correct.

Or is it ? If you don't get the 1st down you're giving the opponent much better field position versus having them pinned back at their own 5 yard line. IMO pounding the rock there with Red would have been the smarter call but as the PPG reporters pointed out after the game apparently the Steelers saw on film that Justin Tuck had a real tendancy to consistently rush field goal attempts on the INSIDE so they tried to catch the Giants off guard with a fake around the outside. Tuck doesn't do what he normally does and makes a great play, as if he was almost expecting the fake which let's face it he was probably the only damn person in the stadium that would have expected it in that situation. So... how much of it was Tuck simply being lucky and guessing right versus it just being a bad call. Probably a little of both. Regardless, Tomlin took full responsibility for the call, the Steelers still win and all is fine today in Steeler nation ;)
