If Tomlin is going to go for that Fake Field Goal then why not just pound the rock on 4th down and a yard?

That might have been the worst call of Tomlins career. I was beyond pissed. He apparently thought Redman couldn't get a half yard but Shaun Shuisham could??!!!

That would have been the smart play. Why risk getting your kicker killed. Let a RB do the job.

You would have to ask him because I am POSITIVE most people on here can NOT answer that. Remember this post because I guarantee you some contrarian is gonna get on here and talk about how he agrees with it and thinks it's a good call. Just mark my word. It will happen.

Redman was averaging 5.4 yards a carry. What is Suishams average?

One of those plays that if it works they look like geniuses and when it doesn't they look like morons. When he flipped it over his shoulder like that I was thinking, "holy ****, he's going to walk into the end zone" until I saw Tuck standing there, looked like Tuck knew it was coming. I thought it was a pretty sweet fake actually, just didn't work. They knew they would be pinned deep though and so that part they were right about, got the ball back in good field position and ended up scoring anyway.

Agreed, they were running too good, to not keep pounding the rock, along with the fullback blocking.

When you got quick fast defensive ends like the Giants have you just keep running right at them.

i would have run redmann even on the third down when ben changed the play , good that the defense gave us the ball back

I can agree with that thought on a 50 yard attempt but not on 4th and goal from the 3. That is where you man up!

Exactly. It was a huge risk as the 3 would have tied it. And since it didnt work...like Tomlin Era just said...he looks dumb...had it worked people would have called it smart (though probably some still saying it was a huge risk). If they would have at least gotten one decent block on that side of the field he could have at least got the first down if not scored...but it didnt look like anyone blocked (like they didnt know it was coming, haha).

At least it didnt backfire on them in the end...and they still won the game...thats all that matters now!

yes but you don't need a genius to run a couple of times redmann on a third and one against that defense , infact later they understood

Though on a 50 yard attempt...if you get the same result that happened during the game you give them the ball near the 35 yard line...not the 3. But I know what you're saying!

If by 'sweet', you mean terrible, I suppose you're right.

No blockers going that way, only Heath, and he had too many defenders to worry about (missed the first defender, that actually tackled Swissham).
That play didn't stand a chance.

    Swissham pass to Heath?

Or, 4TH QUARTER, down by 3, just kick the ball, idiot.

I agree. I thought they should had taken the points.

The issue I have is that people will attempt to sum up Tomlin's head coaching career based on the mistakes he's made.

I got news for you. Tomlin makes alot of mistakes. So do other coaches but I can give him a pass on the W's.

Actually, it was a gutsy call by coach T and a well executed play-- the snap from center to holder was perfect, the holder made a beautiful blindsided backward flip over his head to Suisham, Suisham made a textbook catch, he then ran forward with the ball about 2 feet before getting tackled-- no other team has the balls to run this play!!

Really? I've seen that play about 50 times. None with it 4th and a yard at the 3 with a back averaging over 5 yards a carry.

Everyone watching the game everywhere unanimously said this statement.

Hopefully that's the last time we ever see something that stupid.

Someone asked me if it was one of the player's who suggested it. "God I hope not."

I like the play just not in that stuation. If we were down by seven I'm ok with that play, but not when a field goal ties the game.
It all worked out in the end so it's pretty much a non issue now.

Exactly, thats what I meant when I said it looked sweet, really was a nice looking fake, just didn't work. I would have taken the 3 points but it was a good looking fake. They were still pinned deep and in the end we got the result we wanted. I really don't have a problem with it. At the same time, I get what the people are saying that if we were going to go for it, just run it down their throat, that was working all day.

I personally didn't like the fake FG call. I would have kicked the field goal. I gave up a long time ago trying to figure out Tomlin.

I hear Suishan played some tailback way back in Pop Warner League and Coach T wanted to try out the next man up if Batch went down and Redman couldn't return.

You think that call was ALL Tomlin and NO Haley? I'm just curious if you know exactly how things work in that situation. Does Tomlin come and say "hey Haley do you have a play I can run here"? and then Haley says "yeah" and then Tomlin says "do it". OR does Haley say "hey let's do this" and that's how the call got made. I'm just curious but I figure in that situation it's all Tomlin.
