I was listening to the Cook & Poni show the other day. They talked about our worst nightmare (as Steelers fans.) They said it would be New England making it to/winning another Super Bowl. (That seriously makes me want to vomit.)
They talked about how the Steelers are helping the Pats by beating the Bengals & the Broncos. (Which sucks!) Then they asked this::
Who in the AFC will be able to stop the Patriots? Not the Jets or the Chiefs. Not the Colts or Texans either. The Bengals? They probably won't make it past their first game. Cook & Poni think we're the only team that can beat them in the AFC. If we continue to play like we are now, I think we can beat them. I also think the Broncos have a good chance if Peyton plays. They have a great D- & little girl Brady hates to get hit. As far as the NFC, I think the Cardinals or Panthers have the best chance to beat them- but I really don't want them to get that far.
Who do yinz think will be able to beat the Pats in the playoffs?

The Pats are a going to be a tough out no matter how you slice it because they just generally play a solid game. That said, they aren't immune to the Any Given Sunday rule - just a few weeks back they got trounced by an Eagles team that has for the most part been a mess this year.

I'd agree that the best chance to take them down before the SB resides with us or Denver. I don't know if Peyton's playing will have much (positive) effect should Denver meet them though - he's notoriously shaky in the playoffs, and was having an abysmal year prior to the PF injury. Their defense would have to lock Brady and Co down. For us, it's a matter of playing a solid, disciplined game - remembering to cover Gronkowski would be a help as well.

As for the NFC, tough to say. The Panthers are having a great season, but I don't know that I'm trusting it yet. They're reminiscent of those teams that come along every few years that post a record far above expectation (many thought they'd be a solid contender for the playoffs, but undefeated in Week 15?), but make an early exit in the playoffs. Arizona would match up well on paper, but I don't know that I see them running toe-to-toe with them on that kind of stage yet. Green Bay would pose a good challenge if the offense in general - and Rodgers in particular - would get their mojo back.

If Brady gets a 5th Super bowl we will never hear the end of it.

Patriots have been very banged up this year. If Gronk and Edelman are diminished by injuries Pats are done. Their other options are bad.

Also last year their secondary had Revis and Browner (Browner sucks this year I know). Plus their D has been banged up.

KC might be the sleeper. They have won 7 in a row and have 3 relatively easy ones to close the season. There is a potential they could be riding a 10 game win streak into the playoffs.

I hate to say this but until the Steelers show me they can consistently beat the Pats
The Steelers are just another blip in there way to the Superbowl. The Pats seem to own us and have for some time. Besides us, Denver might be the only one.

I'm confident this is the year they beat those cheaters. I'm afraid they probably have their playbook thanks to Blount. But they only beat them by 7 this year without Bell and most importantly Martavis Bryant. And oh yeah, they were listening to their plays for the 1st half. No way they saw that reverse coming without prior knowledge. Martavis Bryant playing and all the injuries they have sustained? Steelers win.

Let's worry about today's game, or we might not even have an opportunity to play the Pats.

I honestly cannot see the Patriots winning the Super Bowl this year. They're just not good enough. I'd be surprised if they made it. No homerism there, either.

All we can do Steelgirl84 is win out. We do that we're in. I agree that if we get in, we will beat the panthers in SB-50

Before the SB: Steelers or Denver

SB: Panthers or Seattle. I actually think Seattle is going back to the SB, they are regaining form.

I think any of the above teams can beat NE, especially without Edleman.

I was listening to that same show and then at the end they gave predictions and both agreed that we lose to the Pats in a weird 47-40 shootout or something like that. Couldn't believe they predicted that score.

Ant team that gives up 47 doesn't deserve the playoffs but I would think the Steelers defense is not that bad and we would beat the Pats on their field something like 26-12.

Yes, we can beat them. I have never felt so confident about our chances in NE should we go there.

NE is not what they used to be. However, Seattle or Carolina look like huge challenges should we get to the SB.

Yep - it's weird this year, because a lot of teams have records that seem to exaggerate how much better they are than teams with worse records. I've not really seen much from the Broncos this year, but they had a great record. The Pats are doing what they always do, but their team isn't stellar. Carolina I've not seen much of...

Obviously, a win is a win, but all that means nothing in the play-offs.

I guess my judgement on Denver will be tested out tonight, though.

I didn't get to listen to the end. I don't know where they got that score but I don't think it will be that high either. I normally don't listen to Cook & Poni, I like Tunch & Wolf more.
I think the score will be a little closer. I see us beating them by a field goal or maybe a touchdown. Wouldn't it be GREAT if the Steelers were the ones to send the Pats home? Especially since Tomlin has never beat the Pats in their house. It's ALL I want for Christmas!!
None of this will matter if we don't get in the playoffs. Stupid Ravens are losing to the Chiefs now. Can't they do ANYTHING right?!??

You think our defense can hold Brady to 12 points?

We'll need to score 30 to win. Don't forget, Gronk is back.

Yea. Who am I kidding? Brady would put up 40 by halftime on this secondary.

I would love for Steelers to go to NE and beat them.
