Interesting, but whats more interesting is going to the link that shows that our 2013 cap numbers aren't killers. Big fear is that all of these restructures are going to kill us down the road. Looks like Khan is taking care of that, too.

Where was this guy in the 90's when we were losing players and coaches alike. This guy is a genius and the steelers would be fools to let him get away.We are so blessed as an organization, that sometimes we take it for granted. :good:

The salary cap is expected to jump pretty high in another year or two from the new TV deals, so i'm sure they are trying to absorb most of these once that happens.

In the 90s the Steelers weren't in the revenue generating Heinz Field as they are now so players were more freely allowed to leave. They also added capital when they brought in new ownership but the Rooney's were able to maintain controlling interest in the team. They are able to maintain players and coaches(Keith Butler) because of it. They got way over the cap in 2010 and 11 in order to go after a championship. GO STEELERS!

In the 90s, signing bonuses didn't count against the cap--only salaries. The Steelers lost a lot of players not because they couldn't compete salary-wise, but because they couldn't (and wouldn't) pay the ridiculous signing bonuses that were being doled out at the time. Remember the Andre Rison contract with the Browns: base salary of 500k, with a 5 mill signing bonus.

It will be fine, in a few weeks the fire sale will start, and there will be a lot more cap space.

I imagine him learning about the restructuring and then stomping his feet and yelling, "That's not fair!"

I've been waiting for the firesale to start...I can understand restructuring 1 or 2 guys, but restructuring as many as we have is concerning. This isn't a charity. Rooney's are forking out a lot of money to our star players just to keep a few guys around who really need to go.

Smith, Hampton, Farrior, Foote, possibly Ward all need to go.

I would be fine rolling with a few rookies taking their lumps for one year than overpaying for the back-up veterans right now.
