I honestly feel like we have been hoodwinked. For years the national media fawned over him. He talks tough with words like “We don’t run from Adversity” and always alluding to ownership and accountability yet he himself and his coaching staff rarely if ever take any ownership or accountability. Sure they do so in words but the clearly don’t believe what they say because they never make adjustments or change.

Tomlin is so convinced he is right and he has buffaloed Rooney into thinking the same that we just continue to do the same things year after year and we continue to have the same issues.

Honestly when did we ever have really good line play under Tomlin other than when we had Munchak as the Oline coach. When did we have a good defense other than when we had Arians as the Def Coordinator. Sure we have had spurts with an elite player like Watt to carry the defense but against good teams when he was neutralized we were alway exposed on Defense.

I truly believe we have been fortunate to have some elite talent that has covered up for some coaching inefficiencies over the years. When going up against good teams with good coaching those elite talents were neutralized and we were exposed as an organization. It would be nice to have those elite talents but you can’t build an organization philosophically around that, it just isn’t practical.

Tomlin is not a terrible coach by any means but lets be honest he isn’t a great coach either. He needs elite talent to make him a good coach. Had he been a great coach our teams would have been even better with the talent we have had on the team over the years.

Andy Reid is a Great coach and when he got an Elite talent like what he has with Malhomes they have become an elite team. We will never be that team with Tomlin. With Elite talent we will just merely be good.

Tomlin has managed to convince Rooney he is an elite coach. He has managed to convince the front office that we just need to load up with aging high priced veterans like Ramsey, Slay, Watt and Hayward and he will get the most out of him because he is that good as a coach. He has managed to convince the front office that he can get the most out of our Oline coach we just need to draft better and sign free agents to build up the line. He has convinced everyone his system on defense is correct we just need the DC to implement it and teach it correctly and to throw more bodies at it because it is just an execution and communication problem it most definitely is not a schematic issue.

The amazing thing is we keep doing it. How many CB’s and ILB’s have been through? I’m not saying Queen and Wilson don’t have their issues but I do believe there are alot of coaches out there that could get alot more out of these guys than we do.

A good coach fins talent that fits his system. Then he puts them in position to succeed. That isn’t happening here and the more this has become Tomlins team (as in pairing away Cowhers old coaching staff and players) the more evident it has been to me that Tomlin is not a good HC. I have neve seen a coach take less responsibility and be seemingly willing to change his ways less than I have Tomlin. But he has all the answers and this is his world and we are just in it.

The sad thing is he has no one in the organization to say stop. We have continued with this madness for far too long. At least he is now being exposed.

Most overrated coach in NFL history. I’m happy he is being exposed but sad at the **** show he has turned our team into.

This happens when the owners only care about money. The culture is top down and spreads fast.

I think Tomlin's time with the franchise has an expiration date. I don't know if its when Heyward or TJ decides the retire. Tomlin just doesn't want to experience a true rebuild and once those two retire, our defense truly will be in rebuild mode. They can't rely on over-the-hill FAs forever in attempts to keep this going. Once Omar/Weidle says we're in true rebuild mode is the day Tomlin and the franchise decides to move on from one another.

I think.... that expiration date is the conclusion of the 2027 season.

I also think... this team will be head and shoulders better than we are seeing currently by the conclusion of the 2027 season.

I like how we have drafted since Kahn became the GM.
I think Kahn will also be successful in finding the next HC, meaning team success on the field.
This is not a bad team. Just not a contender. Yet

At the conclusion of his contract may very well be the expiration date. It kinda lines up with a few factors like Dan III likely taking over and TJ retiring by then.

As for the team being better by, that really depends on drafting/development and seeing how Omar's guys are being developed, I'm not so sure about that if Tomlin is still in control.

We had the better talent in a lot of those embarrassing Playoff loses. It was obvious to see that the team was under prepared. That is on the HC.

Arians was the Steelers OC, not DC. Dick Lebeau was the DC. Both of those coaches ran their units when Tomlin was just a figurehead, ceremonial HC from 2007-2011. Now that Tomlin chooses his own coordinators and meddles too much with the defense... the results are not surprising.

For the record, I believe Arthur Smith is a good OC. A good OC in a bad situation.

160 million dollar (overpaid) defense and ranked 30th. I mean what more can you say. If this isn’t a direct reflection on coaching then I’m not sure what is.

Worst part is, I spent years defending Tomlin to friends, family and even folks on this very board. When you’ve completely lost your most ardent supporters, that’s a tell in and of itself.

The defense sucks and it’s the highest paid. We can suck just as good without Heyward and Watt.

I used to support Tomlin as well. My issues started with him over the Canada situation and drafting Kenny Pickett.

Oh trust me I know; however, it'll be easier for the fo to seek a true rebuild once they retire instead of retooling.

If we can trade Watt I would do that. Not sure what we could get for him with a declining skill set and a massive salary. I would like to see the younger Rooney get more involved. This Rooney is weak and indecisive. His Dad was much better. I think it was the younger Rooney that said it was crazy that we extended Watt and he was right.

I always said Watt was going to digress sooner than Garrett because Watts game was predicated on speed where Garrett is more power and it looks like that is bearing out.

Yea, his contract makes it impossible to trade him for a worthwhile return. It is what it is. We'll have him for a season or two more before cutting him loose. Heyward probably retires after this season.

Watt is still an elite player, you dont dedicate as much of your personnel to neutralizing a washed player as teams do to Watt.

Watt has said he is open to being moved around but as usual, the coaching is being stubborn. A play here and there wont cut it. He should be all over the place so hes not so easily schemed out of the game.

Because, I was one of those folks that looked at the bigger picture. Winning records, playoffs, albeit losing as time went on, not to mention taking us to 3 Super Bowls. I just never felt overreacting was productive for my well being. I still feel that way to an extent (under certain circumstances). I think a majority of football fans overreact to their respective teams.

That said, my patience began to gradually wear thin over the years. So yeah, probably the last 3-5 years I’ve been off the Tomlin train. This team desperately needs a change at the top and until then we’ll likely see more of the same.
