don’t even think about drafting Milton….im in Knoxville and a UT alum…he isn’t that swift and he sure as hell can’t process fast enough for the NFL.

    You might be disappointed then.

Not stating it is written in stone but don't be surprised if the Steelers showed a large degree of interest by the time the draft rolls around.

I found a copy of the Wonderlic test years ago and took it

    It’s not a hard test

    I think there are 48-50 points/questions if I remember

Anyone getting less than say 30 is not particularly bright 40 or more is easily obtainable

A perfect score can be had by most engineering/technical graduates

So, what does Pickett’s score of 17 say about him? My perception of Pickett coming out of college was that he didn’t necessarily possess physical skills that would wow you but I suspected that he was probably a pretty bright kid and his football IQ would compensate for some of his physical limitations. That was before I knew what his Wonderlic score was. The concerning part for me is that so far we’ve seen the Wonderlic results translate to his play on the field. He seems to struggle with pre-snap reads, understanding defensive coverages and concepts, going through his progressions. Again, I don’t want to make the Wonderlic the end all, be all, but there is obviously a reason why teams continue to use it. Apparently the Steelers didn’t feel as though it was an issue but then again I still think the ghost of the Dan Marino draft pick may have played a role in the Steelers decision to draft Pickett.

To answer your question I do not know

I will say compared to a lot of nfl players Pickett did graduate from college in marketing

And he is now enrolled in graduate school for business

So he is not a dummy

Some people do not do well on tests under pressure

With that said every snap of the ball is a test under pressure

I'm really starting to think that may be an issue. He wears 2 gloves for a reason and I'm guessing that's to grip the ball better.

We don't see pump fakes from him and I'm pretty sure we'll never see a Ben full throwing motion aborted pass from him. If he can't securely hold the ball without gloves, could be why he's not able to hit off-platform throws as well.

Supposedly next year he is going with 3 pairs of gloves on each hand to help with the grip. Could his hands actually be getting smaller?

The coaching up part is the problem for the steelers who aren't known for being developers of QB talent, Ben being the obvious exception in the past 2 decades. Or hell, for that matter, they aren't even good evaluators of QB talent. Way too many head scratching acquisitions they have made that I'm not going to detail because we've discussed more than enough over the years.

Milton is interesting and he seems like a really good guy and teammate. He has some terrific physical abilities and we have seen him throw a football 90 yds in the air, which is freakish. He isn't a great scrambler and has accuracy and touch issues. Can they be coached up? I think so, but I have zero faith the steelers have the staff, acumen, or even desire to do it. Joe would be a hard pass for me. I would pass on any mid round project QB or some other teams throw away for the same reason.

UT Vols faithful suffered through last season after being spoiled by Hooker and impatiently waiting for Nico to see the field. Agree Joe seems like a good guy but he has had a lot a chances to show he is the guy and come up short.
