Only one of the Wildcat runs worked, the rest were nothing special. The best thing it did was keep the defense guessing on future downs. For some reason AB isn't very successful on gadget plays too.

Loved the shuttlepass to Heath. That was something out of Whiz's playbook that worked real well!

About the only thing I liked about seeing us run a "wildcat", was that I was sure the defense was as confused as I was for a second!
".... Wait.... WHAT?!?!.... The Steelers don`t run this!!!!..."
    They had to be thinking!
Other than that, I`m not a big fan of it, and I don`t think it suits our personell very well.
In general, I like the fact that they are mixing in some "gadget" plays, ala the Mike Mularkey days.
As long as they just mix in a couple a game, to keep defenses off guard, and put things on tape, for future opponents to worry about, and don`t become too reliant on them, I am very much in favor of it, just not so much, the wildcat, in particular.
I would also like to see them use them, more when we have a lead, and can "afford" a mistake, than to try and create momentum, when we need it, but....
How often do we have a lead, or the luxury of just trying sumthin for the heck of it?
Sumtimes, it might be worth the gamble to "generate a spark"...
    GO STEELERS!!

Bell ran the Wildcat at Michigan State so he is comfortable with it. If it works, keep doing it.

espn.com's Scott Brown wrote an article in the Bleacher Report saying that Ben is not a fan of the Wildcat.

Huge shocker there. Ben isn't a fan of a package of plays that takes him out of control and renders him totally irrelevant to the play. Who didn't see that one coming?

Of course not, He gets tired running out there and is afraid the DBs will take a free shot at hitting him.

Also remember, he's basically being removed from the play which means there's no glory for him out there. Why would he be happy with the cat!!!

Hows that? He can still be part of the play as a WR.

On a side note, I'm super jealous of you guys, you must spend a lot of time with Ben to know him so well.

There's an article on NFL.COM where Ben said in an interview that he's not a big fan of it because "he gets tired physically" by running out to play receiver. Translated "I'm the dang $100 million qb so let me run the offense". LOL. But he did say that he didn't mind it as long as it helped them to win.

I know but I was referring to others saying why ben doesn't like it, like not getting the glory or not having control.

Oh. Yeah I don't think that's accurate. He said in the article that he doesn't mind it as long as it helps them win and I believe him. If he doesn't like the wildcat then wouldn't you also have to say that he doesn't like the gadget plays where AB or whoever throws the ball? I mean by that logic wouldn't you have to draw the same conclusion if you felt that way?

Yup, Bens concerns are legit, he's a 100% right about the dangers of handling snaps when you aren't used to it and him going out as a WR and setting himself up for a DB to tee off on him.

That's what I was saying earlier this week before I read this article was that the one thing I didn't really like about it was that it pretty much means that Ben is gonna take even more punishment. But in the article I read Ben said that he didn't really worry about getting hit because he's bigger than a lot of db's and he didn't think they would want to hit him. LOL. I think he's took too many head shots. I can't think of a single db that WOULDN'T want to hit a qb. I'd say most lay in bed and fantasize about killing them really.

lol, I think any defensive player that gets a chance to light up the QB would love to, especially when the QB rules in place to protect them aren't in effect when Ben lines up as a WR.

if that's what it takes. ben is as big if not bigger then most LB'ers. he should be able to defend himself straight up with any DB. 6-5 245, that's still a big boy.

Being able to get out of a tackle and going toe to toe with a CB, LB or DB as a WR are 2 completely different things. Ben isn't going to lower his shoulder or juke a defender to make him miss.

I've seen DB's lay out some big boys. It's completely foreign to Ben, doing something he isn't used to, leave himself open to get popped or maybe someone just takes out his knees. Hopefully they just continue to run it and never throw to Ben.

did you guys see ben block? he's a football player, he's been hit by the best of them. he runs it and puts that shoulder down, don't he?

I think he can hold his own on the field.

We'll just have to agree to disagree. Regardless, the risk isn't worth the reward IMHO.
