I've loved this team my whole life. I was raised to do such. I'm a homer, a realist, a fan. I'm always optimistic, pissed off, proud, and blown away by the good and bad (every season) and it will never end. It's the ebb and flow of being passionate about something. I get a kick out of chatting with you guys and while I know none of us has a say in how anything goes with this team, it's a hoot giving em a ear full and slapping em on the back throughout the season.

    Go steelers!

I agree that posts like these come across as belligerent. The Steelers have done better than I thought they would do this year and I'm EXTREMELY happy about that. Do I think we will win the Super Bowl? Absolutely not. Does that make me "less" of a fan? Absolutely not. I just think that some people put WAY too much stock in what other people think. Also it is like that some people feel "validated" when the team does what they "expected" them to do. I am completely cognizant of the fact that whatEVER my opinion is it has NO bearing on what happens on the field. If fans opinions mattered the Raiders would be in the Super Bowl every year. I am just a dude with a cpu that likes talking to other dudes with cpu's about the Steelers. Nothing more. Nothing less. If there is such thing as a "sore loser" there must also be such thing as a "sore winner". If we went 0-16 but some on here wanted to talk about how it's "not all that bad" and stuff like that I would be absolutely fine with that and would never tell them to "shut up". I also wouldn't tell them to "eat crow" or whatever else. I'm nobody's boss. There is a right way to say everything and that's how I try to say stuff. You can disagree without being disagreeable. We are on a site called thesteelersFANS. What more do people need to know about me? LOL. I mean TTF actually MADE A WEBSITE to express his fandom but he NEVER gets on here and says "I MADE THIS SITE! LOOK AT HOW BIG OF A FAN I AM! I HAVE MORE POSTS THAN ANYONE! LOOK AT HOW BIG OF A FAN I AM!" You know why? Because he's WAY too classy of a guy to do that. He leads by example and we all should follow that lead. Starting with self included.

I'm in the "homer" group and these threads are even making me uncomfortable.

We're improving and in the playoffs, lets just enjoy that

And take gratification that Tomlin will be getting an extension soon :lolol:

You still can criticize though. You aren't happy with the secondary either. Some might even say you're not a homer for doing that.

I don't see myself as a homer, I was speaking how others probably see me but yeah, I know the team has flaws.

Need to find someone to replace Harrison, you see what happens when pressure is put on the QB.
Think the Dline is coming along nicely but real thin behind the starters.
    Secondary obviously needs work.

On the offensive side, things are pretty much set there, give a little attention to the line, TE and draft for depth on both sides of the ball.

i consider myself both..... the homer in me believes we can go on a run in the playoffs and bring home the title like in yrs. past......... the homer in me has hope that Jarvis jones will develop into a terror on the edge.... the homer in me has hope that cortez allen will right his ship

the realist in me says that if we took care of business against the bottom feeders in the league, we would have home field throughout.
the realist in me says that we wasted money on cortez and put ourselves in salary cap hell because of it

I actually find THIS insulting and your following responses sarcastic & condescending.

I'm 53, Loved this team and been an unwavering fan since 1972 and that includes most of the 80's & the Kordell years. I work very hard supporting my wife & 4 kids and I bleed Black&Gold and spend my spare money supporting this team so they can spend millions on these players & coaches and if I want to vent my frustrations from time to time on a Message Board I will so don't ever come on here and tell me to shut the hell up. Who are you and what gives you that right?

Debbie downers get on my nerves. Rah Rah all the time all is good all the time folks get on my nerves but I respect their right voice their opinions about this team but insulting them is off limits.

    Go Steelers!!!!!!!!!

Homers don't even know that they're homers, people have to tell them. When ever I point out the obvious problem with this team, you're right behind me trying to sugarcoat it.

Maybe you should look at my post again, it clearly states some things that are wrong with the team.

You're one of the peoples who's critiques falls under the un-realistic category, you think you are a realist but people have to point it out to you that you are not. When you say Ben sucks and not a top QB and trade him and things of that nature, who can take you seriously? Of course I'm going to defend against comments like that.

I'll admit it, I'm a homer. I pretty much believed if KC could have won last year and Steelers made the playoffs, that they could have gone to the superbowl.

Having said that, I believe there is a 3rd category. That being the bandwagon fans. There are a bunch of them leaving the Ravens, Saints, Eagles, and others as we speak.

When I said he sucks it was after the 2 big games, he stunk it out for the next 3, he threw more INT's than TD's. I always said he was an average QB, I'll move him up to Above Average, happy now? He isn't elite I'll be sticking to that one.

History, stats, Super Bowls and common sense prove you wrong.
You hate Ben we get that. Why don't you just say why it is that you hate him? It's definitely not because of his play. There's no basis to say that he's just an average quarterback. You're going to have to come up with something better than that.

This year yes he's in the top 5 , ( he's finally getting on the same page with Haley and he has a great RB to open things up. Going back to the past 5 years he was ranked 16, 12 , 10 , 7 , and 11th. Minus this year and 2010 he's been in the average/above average. Those SB years you know it's about defense if he didn't have the #1 ranked D covering up his mistakes , they were definitely in the top 2 or 3.

Things that drive me nuts about the guy is when he holds onto the ball for too long, he doesn't always look for the open receiver, he tries to force things in too many times, he doesn't know how to throw the ball away when things get harry. All basic common sense things to do, thats what drives me nuts, they should come naturally. A bell should be going off in his head saying,, Get rid of it!!!
