Yeah, there are a bunch of lakes nearby. A huge lake is within 10 miles if I remember correctly.

Do you not have to pay a ton of taxes on that every year since it's so close to that federal property? I was always curious about stuff like that. Also like what if you shot a deer on your land and it crossed the boundary to the federal land? Are you allowed to go get it as long as you leave your weapon or do you just lost it altogether?

Taxes are wicked low. It's in the national forest, but that doesn't mean much as there are like 20 counties in the national forest.

If you could lease that out to deer hunters I bet you could make some good money. People will pay a fortune for stuff like that. Down here they go in and pool their money and lease places just to hunt on.

Yeah, it's not enough land for that. It's 2 and a half acres or so with a cabin/home and some out buildings. People do the hunting lease stuff like crazy up here in the north, too.

Are you guys allowed so shoot high powered rifles where you live? I know in like Ohio and more of the less mountainous places you have to just use a slug or a bow.

Yes. You can hunt with a rifle here (30.06 etc). Not that far away you can't though.

I've eat elk before and it was GREAT! Can a 30-06 bring one down? Also do they have whitetails in CO or is that mule deer country?

    I'm not a hunter but I think, where our dirt is, they're mule deer. I don't see why a 30.06 wouldn't work!

Yes. With the right bullet and placement. But that could be said of most rounds. I'd use my .30-06 on anything in N. America with the only exception of a brown bear. Sure, it could do the job. But I wouldn't want to be wrong. ;)

I loves me some roast elk.

Then again, I love most wild game. (Not a big fan of bear meat)

I tried wild turkey once, when I was about 19, mixed with coke. Awful!

That about sums it up. 30-06 being your general long range, big game round. If you're moose or brown bear hunting you're probably going to want to bring a .338 Winchester Mag.

    yep.BFT

I'm sure these two know we were just kidding

they're not like some who just rush into a thread and bashes you for having a different opinion from theirs and they don't question your fandom and then rehash it until it has nothing but to be attended to. while trying to fit everyone and everything into their tidy little box. SHOW ME someone like that and I just shake my head.

I do like pheasant a lot
tried quail a couple of time

I've had them, but never 'gigged' one. I'm not sure what that is actually, but I assume it means fishing for them? I haven't had them in decades, but I thought were good when I did. I'm a reforming hillbilly of sorts, so I think the mantra that 'everything's good in a stew' holds true. When I was a teenager we'd go hunting, and whatever we got, my friend's dad would basically just put in a stew. Always ended up pretty tasty.
