Alternatively, play all the back ups and watch the board light up over how Tomlin clearly doesn't care, team can't even be bothered to see out the full season, etc. etc.

Screw draft tactics. You play to win. After what has been a fairly demoralising season, I can't think of much more to ice the cake than sending out half the team for the last game.

I believe he was talking about the missed opportunity at a chance to draft high next season.

I for one like what I see from our top two OLB backups, Carter and Worilds. They both move a lot better than Woodley ever will (conversely not as stout vs the run) and they will provide just as consistent of a pass rush (based on this year it won't take much). Stick either of them behind Aaron Smith in his healthy years and they both are capable of 10+ sacks a season. Behind Ziggy, maybe 6-8. But Woodley is going to be here for a while, and won't lose his starting job, so any fresh blood will be competing with Worilds to take over for Silverback. Unless we go the Seattle route and look for a Bruce Irving v2 and only play this person on obvious passing downs, keeping Worilds as our normal down OLB with Woodley.

While I don't WANT a rush OLB early in this draft, I really think with the quantity available that we spend our first pick on one and hope that round 2 plays out for us to take an ILB or S.

We missed Hightower last year and we ll miss Te'o this year. We need a nasty linebacker and some nasty lineman, who hopefully can be a leader.

After watching LSU lose last night, QB Tajh Boyd ( a healthier Ben with a brain) would look good in a Pitts uniform, that guy can take a hit and keep on going, thats the kind of QB we need with our garbage o-line.

Get a linebacker from Alabama or LSU and a safety from LSU or Alabama ...invite jerks Johnson back and then you can do whatever you want with the other 5 picks . We already have a hybrid lber on the team that should be ready next year. We are looking pretty good if we could get a good health and fitness coordinator in here .

I can agree with your assessment. I just don't think Worilds and Carter are the splash players at the position we need. I hope so though. And as far as Woodley goes, if he doesn't get his weight together he will be gone in two years. That's about the time linebackers drafted are ready to step in in Lebeau's scheme.

I was thinking that too. I think he has a year left though, if not two. Which may work in our favor, take him in 2015, which leaves Ben with a couple of years left and Boyd enough time to grow or get out.
