He's a backup....nothing wrong with that. Some backups keep getting chances 2 start, and some don't...(Look at Geno Smith , and Tyrod Taylor they have had multiple chances....just 2 name a couple) I actually believe We have 2 backups, and one starter on this team, but We will see. All I'm saying is it's not a bad thing 2 be a backup....way worse jobs in this world.

Well, you never know who will end up starting for us as the year goes on. Ask Duck.

Neither is Tom Brady. Barring injury he should have twelve good years left.

Tom Brady is certainly an outlier and the Steelers or any team would be foolish to use him as a gauge when considering the future of their own QBs. The average retirement age is around 27 but that is for all players... QBs it would be higher depending on how banged up they get. Regardless, I just think Pickett looks ready to compete at the NFL level. His poise and confidence far surpasses even Ben's rookie season. My biggest worry is him getting iced out sitting on the bench for an entire season. It is just something that happens to players. Look at the night and day difference we saw in Le'veon Bell after sitting out a season. Of course there is more to it than that but it's still a concern I have when it comes to Pickett.

Pickett wouldn't be away from the team entirely as Bell was during his year off. Bell also went to a terrible team where he had little help from his blockers or the skill guys around him, two things he had in his favor in Pittsburgh. Of course, you are also comparing a quarterback at the beginning of his career to a running back on the back end of his. The situations are so drastically different that the comparison really doesn't work.

I realize that, that's why I said "Of course there is more to it than that" because the comparison wasn't exactly equitable. It was mostly used because I expected the people on this forum would be most familiar with the Bell situation and it was just to illustrate the far end of the spectrum of what can happen when I player is put on ice. Of course there are also probably many examples of players not skipping a beat. I just feel like Pickett may already be close to or even already in his prime and would hate to squander it. But ultimately got to give the benefit of the doubt to the professionals that they know what they are doing.

I think it’s actually very beneficial for a rookie to not have to be thrown into the mix right away especially with a poor offensive line. Being able to watch the game and learn at this level can’t be ignored. There is little chance Mitchell plays well enough or stays healthy for an entire season so I do believe KP will get an opportunity at some point this season.

While Brady currently is an outlier, due to the current nfl rule changes, you will see a lot more qbs play longer than usual.

I think people worry way too much about Pickett's age. If he pans out, the Steelers will have their quarterback for a long time. That would be true even if he didn't become the starter until next season.

This could very well be the case. I am actually not in disagreement with him not starting right away, I just hope he starts at some point this season but then again I don't wish injury on Mitch.

Fair point, I hadn't given that much thought but that will likely be the case.
