The Ravens were ranked last against the pass this season, that doesn't stop some Steelers fans for wanting them to hire Martindale, he just got fired by Baltimore .

Well he did lose most of his secondary with 1/4 of a season remaining.

That didn't seem to matter to the Ravens, they still fired him.

Don't you know? Everyone is better than what the Steelers have. There are probably people on this board that would take Mike McCarthy over Tomlin

Probably? Certainly would be more accurate; something to date that I still do not understand.

Now that's an interesting prospect, couple years ago his name was being thrown around for HC jobs.

Not sure, but I don't think there is anything that happens to a team that doesn't comply with this rule. I think its more of a very strong suggestion to do so for image reasons. Wasn't Chuckie hired straight out by the Raiders and then Chuckie brought in MMayock? Anyone know?

Kris Richard though?!?! That is another great prospect at DC I can get behind!! Lead the Saints as the most stingy Secondary Unit while being instrumental to founding the Leigon of Boom?!?!

Richard has worked with the likes of Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor, Marshon Lattimore, Marcus Williams, P.J. Williams and has success with guys like Chauncey Gardner Johnson and Paulson Adebo as well. Quite the list of names for certain. This secondary already has good depth in Sutton with young talent like Norwood, Stiner (looked good in Preseason to me anyways and was worth keeping). Add in Witherspoon (who the team should really re sign), Edmunds and Fitzpatrick?!?!

Yeah, I’m envious of Saints secondary.

He would be a good pick up, if he actually would be a real DC here.

Rules were changed in 2020, Mayock was hired in 2018 I think

Re consequences for not complying I am not sure and have not heard of a team not complying. It is fairly easy to comply and not worth the risk of bad PR to not do so, so id say most teams just go with it, even if it’s window dressing and they know their guy from the outset.

it fulfills the new rule expansion. i still think it's austin all the way as the new DC.

now on the other hand omar was not a finalist for the bears job. he and hunt don't fulfill the requirement as new GM so we could see two brought in to interview for that position. i'd still like to see omar get that job.

Hard to judge just based on stats. The Giants are such a dumpster fire of a team that I wouldn't expect any stats to be overly good. Our defence had lots of problems, but our offence made our defence look even worse than it actually was. The Giants were in the same boat. They couldn't sustain drives or score. That really hurts the D.

Omar hasn't met the qualifications for any teams GM position. He's been on many interviews, obviously there's a red flag so why would you want him as Steelers GM?

Love to see an actual DC working with Tomlin and not just for Tomlin.

A DC with a specialty in DBs is what we need. Right now our Starting CBs are a joke, and without Haden it is only going to get worse. We need a fresh set of eyes for drafting new DBs this year.

Why this team is trying to promote their current DB coach is insane!

He has been our number two guy since 2001. Maybe he doesn't interview well. We see a lot of guys that did qualify get fired, omar has never been fired. Has he had a losing season? That seems to have a lot of pull around here.

No other team wants to hire Omar as GM, but the Steelers should , Hunt has the experience of being a scout.

The CBs were pretty good when they had Nelson, Hilton, Sutton, and Haden, the secondary has created more turnovers since Austin became their coach.

I suppose he has been here working hand in hand for 20 years with Colbert, 2 different coaches and the scouting department and learned nothing about scouting players. this is possible but highly doubtful.

Teryl Austin has been here for 3 years, since 2019.

2018 Rookie Terrell Edmunds; how has Austin improved his game in 3 years?
In 2019 the Steelers draft Justin Layne; how has Austin improved his game in 3 years?

Sorry, but I give no credit to Minka or Haden's play as they were on top of their game before coming to the Steelers. Actually, Minkah had his best season with the Steelers before getting coached by Austin, since his first year with the Steelers he missed the offseason and the first 2 games because he was still with Miami. His Ints have gone down every year under Austin; although he is tackling a lot better in 2021.
