The Steelers pick up the fifth year option on Shazier

This move was a easy decision to make, unlike Jarvis when the team passed on his 5th year option. In 2018 Shazier will get a salary commensurate with the top five paid players at his position, or he will get a contract extension .

 

Like everyone else, I'm hoping for 16 games ( or better yet 19 )from Shazier this year. He'll miss a tackle every now and then but when healthy he's a difference maker.

 

Maybe we should move him to safety.

 

Quite possibly our 2nd best player on the team, my fingers
are crossed for him having a healthy career with the greatest team on the planet.

 

The only Steeler defensive player to make the pro bowl. He plays lights out all the time which is why players sometimes consider him a dirty player.

 

After a pro bowl year they should be working on a contract extension before the regular season starts and put that 5th year option of 8.7 million into a 5 year contract, he certainly played at high level enough to earn a new deal:

Shazier had 87 tackles, 3.5 sacks, nine passes defensed, three interceptions and three forced fumbles last season when he was named to the Pro Bowl.
