Ben is signed thru 2019, this is a big offseason for Colbert the defense needs a lot of help. The Steelers don't have much salary cap room as of right now, and they draft at #28.

Mason Ruldolph. Ronnie Harrison. Rashaan Evans. Justin Reid.

Just a list of possible Round One candidates that are being considered.

I'd treat it as one year really. I know the Steelers don't try to "win" free agency, but this offseason, they might want to think about it.

So what you're really saying is to NOT expect many personnel changes for next season.

    Who knows?

Possible trade up in the draft incoming? I would not count that out either.

Even if you draft an ILB or Safety early... the chances of them of making the contributions we need to win a SB in their rookie year is very slim.

Does anyone remember Troy's rookie year? It takes time to get adjusted.

It did take time. Considering how much both the collegiate level and professional levels of football have evolved since Troy, it does not take as much time.

Evidence? T.J. Watt and Ryan Shazier come to mind. Someone like Justin Reid or Ronnie Harrison are plug and play starting safeties.

We won't overspend. We never do. Best way to upgrade this team is by making upgrades to the staff. I would love to see Del Rio replace Butler. He did wonders in Denver as DC.

You’d think they have to pull out all the stops and make a huge push to get better fast. Once Ben is gone...look out. I don’t think we’ll have to worry about drafting so low for a while.

I remember it well, everyone was calling him a bust. Turned out to be one of the best players in Steelers history.

It's gonna take more than 1 season to fix the D. It will continue to be a "work in progress."

The middle of the D is very weak right now. NT, ILB and Free Safety need to be upgraded. Another Strong Safety for depth.

I'm curious if Davis is better suited for Mitchell's position, and we need a new in the box safety?

Davis was a hybrid cornerback in college. Sounds like more of a free safety to me?

The window has shut, IMO. The defense should have been at least top 10 by now, but that has been squandered by poor drafting. Ben don't have enough years left. By the time the defense is back to form, Ben be gone and we'll be back to the Steelers of the 90's.... good defense and mediocre offense with journeymen QBs.

This. Brady will soon retire with 6-7 and Steelers will be 8-8 and below years to come. All will be alright in the NFL land

They are probably going to let Bell go after the 2018 season, so I'm guessing that is when the window closes. This team should be active in free agency. This is the time to do it, to find the safety help they need and perhaps an inside linebacker. Hopefully, a healthy Tuitt will make more of an impact next season.

I'm not sure what to think of Hargrave. He really looked like a player last season, but he got pushed around and made very little impact in 2017.

Nah what’s gonna happen is we are gonna get hope then falter.

Team lacks the 3 D’s to win it all.

    1. Defense
    2. Discipline
    3. Determination

Yes, we are all aware of your pessimism. Hell, I'm a pessimist, but nothing like your level of negativity.

This sucks. Saints were the only team left in the playoffs who could knock off the Patriots. Vikings beat the Saints. I don't see the Vikes or Eagles generating enough O to hang with Brady. Eagles could have if Wentz wasn't on IR.

Rudolph doesn't help this season, so why use a first round pick on him. They're in win now mode, the first three picks in this draft should be all defense IMO.

That was under LeBeau's complicated scheme, not many rookies could start back then.

Not necessarily, they could release a bunch of veterans then sign some mid-tier free agents.

For that to happen they would probably need to restructure more than a few contracts.
