I have been reading some disturbing comments of late on the board. Comments like it is a passing league and the Steelers need to be a passing team or that they need to switch to a 4-3 because everyone is doing it now. People are saying that the Steelers have to follow the trends and get with the times in this new "ERA" of football. I am sorry but let me remind you that this franchise doesn't follow the pack they lead it and set the tone doing it.

When they said no team could win four SB's they did it.
When they said the 3-4 was old and antiquated, they made it feared and popular again
When they said no player can come back from an ACL surgery in the same season, this team had a player that came back and played in the SB and did it well.
When they said no team could win a fifth SB they did it.
When they said no team could have the same coach for over 10 years and still be competitive in the free agency era, they did it year in and year out.
When they said you can't use your back-up QB at WR and have him be a legit threat on offense, they did it and he was.
When they said power backs were done and smaller quicker backs were in style they traded for the biggest back they could find and the Bus rolled for 10 years
When they said no rookie QB could go 15-1 and lead his team to the AFCCG they did it.
When they said no team could play three road games and gets to a SB they did and won it too.
When they said no team trades their SB MVP receiver just because he made the team look bad by getting busted for drugs, they did and still went to the SB anyway.
When they said no way can they get a Sixth SB title THEY DID!
When they said no way can a guy who was cut three times make the longest play in SB history, he did and did it in Steeler style
When they said no way can a XFL guy lead this team he did and lead them well.

Finally when they said there was no way the Steelers win this game, Franco Harris pulled in the ball, ran up the sideline and into history.

The Steelers don't follow trends they make them period. :yeehaw:

Lets hope they can pull some more off this year in the draft and FA.
All there knowledge will be needed this year to sign talent that will be purged due to age and
    salary cap pressure.

Take one away and add one.

The Steelers were not the first to win 5 Super Bowls. Weren't the Cowboys the first and the 49ers the 2nd?

However, one thing they did not say - The Steelers consistently go against the FA trend by allowing UFAs to move on and replace them on the fly and remain competitive. Almost every other team in this league goes through ups and downs - excelling for a few years before tearing it down and rebuilding. The Steelers don't rebuild - they re-load!

Denver showed this year that you can still win with a dominant run game and strong defense.
