    From McCarthy:

"Often times, coaches and players put on new team colors, and it takes a minute to feel comfortable in them," said McCarthy. "But, if you are blessed beyond measure, one day you put on the colors you've worn since you were brought home from Mercy Hospital.

"I want to express my gratitude to Art Rooney, Omar Khan, Dan Rooney and the entire Steelers organization for the trust they have placed in me to represent one of the most storied franchises in all of sports. I understand – and embrace – the responsibility, the privilege and the weight that comes with this stewardship.

"This city, this franchise and this fan base mean the world to me – because Pittsburgh is my world.

"I need to thank two men I'm so fortunate to call friends: Mike Tomlin and Bill Cowher. They represented this organization with such class and I'm honored – honored – to follow them. They left the proverbial cupboard full.

"To my heart, my wife Jessica, our kids, Alex, Danny, Jack, George, Gabby and Izzie... my parents Joe and Ellen and my sisters, Colleen, Ellen and Kellie... the whole crew... you can finally, openly wear your Steelers swag.

"My heart is full and my focus is singular: to bring another championship to this great city. Victory parade '1137.'"

From a Dallas fan that watched McCarthy's offense. Sadly, some of this sounds very familiar.

"Big Mike runs a West Coast Offense scheme characterized by short to intermediate passes, inside zone runs, and an emphasis on getting the ball out quick to protect the offensive line and avoid leaving tackles on an island. The short passing game is also considered a stand in for the run game. There are lots of stop routes (hitches, curls) and outs. Personally speaking, it felt like we really missed a real middle of the field attack with him. Mike in particular is not big on using motion before or at the snap either. Summed up in one statement : very static, attack short outside the numbers.

Circling back to “protect the offensive line”.. what does this actually mean? On paper and to the graders, this means they win a high percentage of reps. Dak takes a 3 step drop and fires the ball immediately. West coast offense is very intentional about the rhythm of lining up footwork, dropback, and fire a pass. So dak gets the ball out quick before the DL can even do anything. On paper? Great pass blocking line! Top 10 even. What happens when they face a team that can also lock up the receivers that fast? Dak has to hold on to the ball and the line is actually losing reps QUICKLY against 4 DL while 7 are in coverage. So “protecting” the offensive line can give you a false read on how your line actually performs when they’re really tested and Dallas was actually not good in that regard despite being listed at top 10 a lot.

My problem with the passing game: McCarthy is conservative and cautious of turnovers to a fault. So much so that it felt like a self-fulfilling prophecy. He will call some of the most conservative plays you will ever see for 3 quarters, then “open up the offense” when it’s nearly too late and now the QB is pushing the ball trying to be Superman. Better put, you don’t put any skin in the game to get ahead. This sort of offensive scheme will require an EXCELLENT defense that can get them the ball back plenty of times. If you’re forced to “keep up”, you will be in trouble."

Well, I'm happy for coach. He was choked up and it's obvious his dream has come true. From a human standpoint you can't help but be happy for someone that's this happy to wear the black and gold.

I'll support him and hope for the best. Nothing else we can do at this point.

I figured. It doesn't bode well for our ability to hire talent at the OC position, but it makes sense.

His run game has been all over the map both in GB and Dallas. One Dallas fan said he 'ran the ball grudgingly, like someone told him to'.

There was a lack of cliches in the press conference. I’m not sure how to feel about that.

But am concerned he will find a buddy from his past for the job. Would prefer he grabs a young up and comer to groom as eventual HC.

Both are important. The OC is going to help in gameplanning and development of the QB.

Though DC is going to be very important too. Have any favorites you'd like to see him evaluate?
