Agreed. That gets lost in all the noise about Darnold and other FA QBs. Darnold was ALWAYS going to sign with one of the teams running the only system that he experienced success in and felt comfortable running.

That I'm not one and I can still see the mistakes they made tells us just how obvious those mistakes were to anybody who isn't an apologist.

Really? You're his agent? A close friend? It's so nice of that someone so close to him is here to share what he was thinking before he signed rather than assuming things based on the normal boilerplate that players spew after they choose the best contract. Thanks for sharing.

It makes sense Darnold struggled most of his career that he would want to play for an OC he was comfortable with; you act like players have never turned down more money before to go to a place they felt was a better fit.

Math just doesn't support your claims.

Here is the prize of the 2025 FA safety class: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/player/_/id/72509/camryn-bynum. Carried a $7.01 million 2025 cap hit.

I believe the Steelers finished 2025 with several million in cap space. They could have signed Bynum if the player and the team had enough mutual interest. They didn't.

Is roster construction an inter-related puzzle? Sure....but your dire predictions that this was a franchise sinking deal just run into the face of reality over and over again.

The internet is full of stories related to this idea when Darnold was on the market.

I believe there is a term for it...."system qb"? Nah. I think I made that up to.

Can't we all be happy that the Mountain was signed. He's my favorite player on the Offense, and I believe Rodgers liked him , and missed having him as the year wore on.

And you act like players never say it's about something other than the money when it's almost always about the money.

Were those articles speculation or did they have quotes from Darnold saying what he was looking for in a landing spot?

I am not sure that anyone is struggling with the Steelers making mistakes.

Me? I would've traded Watt, Heyward, and most the office furniture in about 2022 or so. I can see why the Steelers didn't and the whole intangible benefit for "one contract guys". I do think that Watt has made Highsmith and Herbig better by being on the roster just as Heyward has with Harmon, Black, and Benton. But that isn't the main point here.

The point is that the dire predictions of many Steelers fans and Steelers blog sites of how this contract would just gut the future roster have not and are not coming true.

The original postings I put out about this were not even aimed at you or anyone specifically and were put in green font to give everyone a bit of chuckle. As usual, you took it personally and keep trying to make things true that fly in the face of the available evidence.

Dude, you have Google and know how to use it. But here is just one article I found in less than 2 minutes.

    https://www.foxnews.com/sports/sam-...s-perfect-team-join-free-agency-special-place

"I was looking at my free agent options and talking with my agent about it, and then all of a sudden, we hear the news that Geno [Smith] was getting traded," Darnold explained to Fox News Digital, while discussing his work with the Lowe's Foundation for SkillsUSA National Signing Day. "And that was kind of like, ‘OK, Seattle could be a potential spot.’ "

" I know coach Klint Kubiak," Darnold said. "I know him from 2023 in San Francisco, when we made that run there, so I’m pretty familiar with the system. I think all those factors combined was really the reason I fell in love with the decision to come to Seattle, and, man, I couldn’t be more excited about it.""

You were having a chuckle and raising an argument, and your side of said argument is particularly foolish. Even now, you are whacking away at straw men.

I never said it would gut the future roster. I'm not sure anyone did. I simply said that having more cap room is better than less, so it does matter that they overpaid Watt.

So, yet another article from after he signed, not before. Thank you for proving my point.

    Winner

Money is always important for the players but the situation matter too and the seahawks had both for Darnold!

I mean the green font was the give away, my guy.

The entire reason for that color on this board is to indicate that an exaggeration, misrepresentation, or sarcasm is incoming.

Are their articles from before free agents sign that list their priorities and rationale in the history of ever?

You don't think that the fact that Kubiak was with the 49ers in 2023 when Darnold was their backup and that the vikings had a similar system when he had a great season with them in 2024 was a factor?

This is just crazy if you don't think it

You live in a fantasy world like crazy!

I have strawman, putting words in my mouth, free space, hindsight, and team made mistakes. We weren't playing blackout rules right?

    And fired the OC.

    And probably changed the HC.

But that's a lot of legs in your parlay.

And imagine going from that Vikings offense to the Steelers offense.

How much over-payment would have been enough for him to make that move?

You do realize he just backed up my point that the talk about wanting to be with Kubiak or in that system all came after the fact, right?
