we have sunken into full blown mediocrity - not suck but not good.

We will not compete at the top levels again this year.

much blame to go around. It ALWAYS starts with Ownership. I have said for years that Rooney must love being just OK. He does not have the killer instinct that it takes to be a World Champ. You have to be ruthless at times to reach the top. and that is not him.

Next in line of blame is Tomlin and Colbert. for the past 6-7 years, they have been no where near on the same page. we now have the most expensive defense in the league.....and I am not even sure it will be a top 5 D. The Minkah contract was excessive.

We will wallow in mediocrity for a few years.

this offense will not compete enough against good teams. the OLINE is putrid.

failure to plan......is a plan for FAILURE.

    8-9
    9-8

    maybe worse......

I've read the message boards of other teams, mainly the AFC North teams. They have similar complaints. There is no guarantee how a player will turn out. (but they sure get those guaranteed dollars)

If the Steelers win 8-9 games I'd consider it a decent season since our QB situation is so different this year. I don't mind a mediocre year if we develop Pickett to be a franchise QB and then draft him some good help.

My biggest fail was Bush. I had this guy retiring as a 5-6 time pro bowler.

LMAO! I think this may be a winner in the doom and gloom department :lolol:

Maybe they could play even a single game of the season before writing something like this.

You’re slacking HeinzMustard, you have work to do to catch up to this dude.

Only thing I'm negative about is Bush and the O-line. The rest of the Steelers '22 team looks good.

    Since 2020 (22 seasons)
    - 12 times in double digit wins. That means 10 single digit wins.
    - 10 first place finishes
    - 14 Playoff appearances.
    - 3 Super Bowls, won 2 lost 1.

So compared to the media darlings, the Dallas Cowboys
    - 7 Double digit win seasons
    - 6 first place finishes
    - 8 Playoff appearances
    - 0 Super Bowls

Now compared to New England, Pittsburgh is not in that class.
Other than New England, who really has that kind of record (Steelers)?

I would agree on setting the mark to be like the New England Patriots but that is not easy to achieve.
New England is a bigger market team.

I think the last two seasons ending in 1 and done's and the way they ended, leaves a bad taste in Yinz mouths.
    I agree with those two.
In 2020 they took an aging roster that was cap heavy and got one last shot... it fizzled out.
In 2021, they were not even supposed to make it to the playoffs, it was a big roster turnover. We all saw Big Ben's stay was 1 year too long.

So while I think they are in a rut I see some positive.
    - It looks like they might have a QB in the wings.
    - The roster looks younger (I haven't gone into depth)
    - The Defense looks like it might rise (though there are some If's that come into play)

The Offensive line is not performing well. They did appear to address it, but some of the risks are not panning out currently.
I didn't really have high expectations for a year of the new QB, that's a tough spot to fill.
I don't know, I guess it is what is perceived as 'mediocrity' because I can look over at Washington, Chicago, The Jets, Cleveland, the Raiders and those strike me more as mediocre. Pittsburgh strikes me as team that will be in the mix and can be dangerous in the playoffs. (Yes, I admit, they need to back that up better.)

You are showing your age by suggesting the Cowboys are any kind of standard to be compared against. Unless mediocrity is the standard? Sure they had a nice year in 2021. Maybe they're the future of the league but I doubt it. When you say Media I'm guessing you mean ESPN? You don't hear crap about them in the upper midwest. Sure the cowboy's like the spotlight but I think that's more to do with their wack job owner and their old loud mouth QB. The Cowboy glory days are as dead as the Steelers Cowher era. If you look at pure regular season wins we are pretty good. If you look at post season wins we are terrible.

The standard is teams like the Patriots, Chiefs, Seattle, Rams, Tampa, and Packers. What will be interesting is to see who stands out for the next 5 to 10 years.

:lolol: Yeah probably. I just randomly took the Cowboys as they are always winning the Super Bowl and the Media loves them
I just returned from Minneapolis Minnesota, and Sunday's ESPN highlight was the Dallas Cowboys.... jeeze...

The standard now, is as you say... those are pretty good teams though some might only be a falling star... like Tampa - A moment in the spotlight.

I have a thing: I root for the Steelers and anybody that plays Dallas.

    i understand.

I have lived long enough, watched the NFL enough and know the DNA of this team and coaching, for the most part.

    AFC is ripped.

Will be harder this year to advance to the playoffs than in the past 10 years.

The Steelers are a young team in the middle of the rebuilding process with new QB's and an O line that'll take another off-season to fix. However, the harbingers of success are there but we are going to have to be patient.

It seems some are basing their opinions on what they have seen so far this year, just like what so many are doing with Pickett.

Lots of good opinions on different sides and I am not on any till I see real football. Not sure how long the time between Bradshaw and Ben was to get a franchise QB but I know it seemed forever. How amazing would it be that the very next year after Ben leaves, we do what has never been done before in finding the next franchise QB and with the GM on the way out of the door? This team, like in years past, is totally unpredictable. How many had us losing to the Bills to start last year? Crazy stuff. We can go in either direction again this year but I won't get a good feel until games are real. JMO>

Well, the usual crowd seems to be in mid-season form! Still 12 days 'til the season starts and, "We suck" "Rooney sucks" "Tomlin sucks"

To each there own I guess. I am just not sure what this is to be upset about. Last season we all said Green should just play guard. We all thought he would be much better there. Steelers thought so too. He wasn't. Steelers brought in James Daniels. We all loved the pick up. Steelers did too. So far he has struggled.

Im not sure how we blame the Steelers here. We all agreed with those moves. Now that they didn't pan out we want heads to roll.

Besides the O-Line I am happy with this team. It was a good pre-season, and I think the Steelers will be better than last year.

    Well yes..... I would agree.
Tomlin still has 1 Rings and 2 appearances.

Tomlin is a well-respected Coach around the league, even with it being the NFL (Not For Long).

Steeltown is a tough market. I don't see any reason to change my thought:
"Pittsburgh strikes me as team that will be in the mix and can be dangerous in the playoffs. (Yes, I admit, they need to back that up better.)"

    ***Edit****
    Corrections.... my bad.
Tomlin still has 1 Ring and 2 appearances.

AR2 has sold this organization out. He likes Tomlin because he's good but not good enough. He keeps them in the conversation. Plus, the Rooney Rule protection. Even selling the stadium name rights for more money. Every year this team becomes less and less what his father left him. We got no o-line. No linebackers. This isn't Steelers football.

There is something to be said about a "slide"
Those number 1 and 2 ranked Defenses could score on you and the Point Diff (PD) shows the Steelers we know and love.
It starts to come back in 2017, though 2018 it allows some points.
The offense let us down in 2019.... Since we couldn't score, other teams didn't have to put up as many points.
2021 was a bomb, they were not good on either side of the ball.
To me it reflects the rebuild and the record was better than expected.

Should Tomlin be on the Hot seat?
I would say this is the NFL, so yes.

    For 2022, he has:
    Some new staff
A change in the Front Office
    A new QB
    Some changes on Defense
    A new O-Line.. (hasn't been promising though)
I think a bad season in 2022 doesn't get him fired but I would expect the heat to be turned up.

    0-17?
Or do you mean playoff game?

To be honest, I have been saying around 7-10 to 10-7 depending on if the new players contribute or are busts.
I can't go 0-17.... they are not Detroit bad.
