after his first couple of throws cold off the bench, lefty went 7 of 11 with 2 of those 11 dropped. 9 out of 11 were on target. that's a good game for any qb. let alone one that has had no reps since august.[IMG]

i think lefty will do just fine. i do believe haley has to let him take some shots down field. with our remaining schedule and baltimores remaining schedule i still think we win the division.

Whats really funny is, the ravens tried to trade up from their 10 spot in the 1st round to the 7 spot to draft Leftwich in the 03 draft but the vikings screwed up the trade and instead the jags traded up to 7, now the rats can play against the guy they wanted to draft.........

Personally, I still like Charlie better.
There is a reason NEITHER of them is starting for other teams, after having their shots at it.
I think Charlie is a bit smarter, better game manager, has more "touch", on the short passes, that we have been thriving with.
Byron has a stronger arm, may be better suited to try to stretch the field with Wallace, but I`m not convinced that his ego, will let him "settle" for the safe passing game, that we have been using successfully.
Haley already made that a moot point, by saying, he will adjust his game plan to suit Lefty...
How I have longed to hear that type of thinking from our O.C. ...
At any rate, I like either one of our backup qb`s better than any others in the league.
It`s a "luxury", I hoped we would never have to take advantage of, but it is good to have them there, when needed.
C`mon, Lefty, prove me wrong, play with that attitude/ego you have, and make me eat my words about wishing Charlie got the call!:praying::popcorn::herewego:

    GO STEELERS!!!

You lost me Steel, what ego are you talking about? Everything that I have heard Lefty say points to the exact opposite. He even said in one interview (paraphrasing) "don't expect to see me running around the field, making throws I'm not capable of" it's not who he is, he said that he is just going to play his game.

Haley very well might change it to "suit" Lefty but I would also bet that if Lefty wants to try and have an ego that Haley will squash that real fast. Remember how we came out running and running and running against Denver? I honestly think that Haley put that in the gameplan just to send a message that it's HIS offense and it will be ran the way he wants to be ran. Did anyone else get that vibe from Haley's first play calls as our OC? I'm not saying he definitely did that but I'm just saying I got that vibe from the start of the season.

O.K.... He may have changed his tune, this year...
But, I do, clearly remember him wanting to leave our team, and be a starter on another team, after he was our backup, only to find that no other teams wanted him as a starter.
Also, his quote about "I think I can play a little bit, we`ll just see what happens Sunday", Speaks to his ego.
I`m not saying that is a completely bad thing...
A qb in the NFL, better have a little bit of ego(also known as "self-confidence"), or they will never make it.
But, he better not be delusional about how good he is, and the quote you pointed out, shows me, maybe he has grown and matured, in that department...
But, saying it, and doing it on the field, are two different things...
He can say it all he wants...
When he plays that way, for us, on Sunday nite, I will believe it.
I hope he means what he says.. If he does... that could lead to good things for us, as a TEAM!:yeehaw:

yeah but why did they drop them? he throws it too hard when a guy is 5 yards away.. its like playing dodgeball with him... he has no touch on the ball... thats why they drop a lot fo them...

Have to disagree with you on this one Steel. I have never know Lefty to be anything but a total professional. And I don't see wanting to go someplace and be a starter as a ego, I see it as an athlete who is competitive and still feels he has something to offer as a starter. He went to Tampa and started but it didn't work out too well but I think Tampa sucking had a little something to do with that. As for his "I think I can play a little bit" 2 things about that; I took it as a little tongue and cheek but also put yourself in his shoes, lot of people saying you suck and the team is going to crash and burn, wouldn't that piss you off? Somewhere on this board I posted Leftys stats as a Steeler, good numbers, he's not a scrub like some are making him out to be.
