why though? He would be a solid starter on a cheap contract bc box safeties don't command high dollar. I don't think investing in a young guy is super likely to be a better player, and we'd have to give up prime capital to spin that wheel. We know what Edmunds is and isn't. He's worth a few million to keep around. Someone has to be the quality role player that is on a cheaper contract

I hear what you're saying. We certainly can shore up the OL in FA too. I like the idea of drafting defense and singing offense (minus signing Sutton and Ogunjobi). We have a young offense that doesnt necessarily need to be younger and a defense that is super high paid, but lacking in two key positions (CB and ILB). I like going something to the effect of CB, ILB, and OL/DL with our 3 picks in the first two rounds

    Why???
That is losing attitude. Oh He's not very good, but He's cheap....let's keep Him. LoL.
Hell let's just not replace anyone, and just keep all the cheap players. LoL.
Question.....Did You not watch how well our D played without Him. Go back, and watch that game. You know that was against the number 1 RB, and a top 5 Wr, and We shut both down....won the game, and got 3 ints. Without T. Edmunds on the field.

Edmunds is good, it’s that his skill set isn’t Minkah… it’s a cheaper skill set, but he’s good at it. He’s a solid player that can be had for cheap. That’s a good thing. If he sucked I wouldn’t want him back. He gets a bad rap bc we drafted him at the end of the first round and didn’t have the ball skills he was hyped to have. He’s solid in man coverage, good in the box, and not great in zone. Makes very few big plays but also makes very few negative plays. He’s what you call an all around average starting NFL SS.

We don’t have enough money to sign Bates at SS and a LT and a ILB and a CB, etc. we have to be smart with the role players we have and for the money he commands he is a good player. Also if we draft a SS with any of our first 3 picks, it’s worse than coin flip odds that we get someone better. I just don’t see the reasoning behind getting rid of him. He’s not worth the ire he receives. We’d have to spend a good amount of capital to get someone better (be it draft or cap money) and that capital is better off spent elsewhere.

The game without him was against a bad team in the cold and wind, at home. Hardly a Herculean defensive effort. That’s an 11 loss team who best offensive stat is 10th in yards. They are outside the top 10 in total rushing and total passing. They are however top 10 in giveaways and have 6 more giveaways than takeaways. It’s a bad team and a mediocre offense that has a few really good players on it. Our team didn’t magically shut down anything bc Edmunds was out.
