The pre-season only proved our rookies can play while our vets sat.

Rodgers sat the whole thing, which is standard for a 42-year-old in what he’s calling his last season. Metcalf and Pittman both dealt with lower-body issues and never really got on the field together with him. Roman Wilson’s snaps were limited, and Darnell Washington looks like he’ll be more of a complementary piece behind Freiermuth and Tonyan rather than a featured option.On defense it was the same story. Watt and Heyward barely practiced, let alone played. Porter Jr. spent most of camp on PUP with the back issue plus the contract standoff, so he didn’t get preseason reps either. A bunch of other vets were either dinged or just held out. Our top 2 backs did not play much. Our starting linebackers were quiet.

The flip side is the rookies actually got useful work. Spears-Jennings showed enough to be our third safety with Elliott on IR. Rubio earned a roster spot on the interior. A good 5th / 6th man he is. Dunker looks like a physical presence at guard even if the pass-pro still needs some work. Bernard has the look of a good WR4 who can move around. Max Iheanachor flashed some talent in limited action after the neck/shoulder thing, and Allar’s tape from the preseason games showed the arm talent and size that made him a third-round pick, even if the footwork is still being cleaned up. He also had a lot of dropped passes. Everette looks like a 3rd round steal.


Tomlin best saying in my opinion was " iron sharpens iron ". But we had little of that on veterans of 3 for more years of experience. The real bullets fly soon. The question is our veterans sharp or not?

 

The coaches know way more then me but I am hoping Washington is way more involved in the O. He rumbles over defenders with the ball in his hands. He is a big ass monster that looks hard to bring down.

 

The pre season proves nothing. I hope you’re right but it is meaningless.


I question not giving starters reps , especially when learning a new system. Having a QB that knows the system well , helps the others trying to learn it. How much development takes place if the QB is off ? Idk.

it tells you what McCarthy thinks about the importance of those games. If he thought they were important, more of those starters would have played. Rogers and Mason would have got more snaps in games to help the development of the others.

He’s a good coach. I’m an idiot fan. so my assumptions are apparently wrong. It’s interesting we gave most of the snaps to a #3 and #4 Qb.

I find it interesting that he specifically stated that Rodgers would play some snaps in the preseason, and yet Rodgers played not a single snap.
Yet I'm told we must believe what the coaches say
