    how the defense performed today.

    allowed:

    12 first downs

    153 passing yards, 47 rushing yards => 200 total

allowed only 6 points - and you could even argue that they really only allowed 3.

The bright spot was the secondary (when's the last time we said that). Ike held his man to one catch and Keenan and company did what I thought was a stellar job, allowing the front end to get to Flacco or at least throw off the timing of the play. We still lack pass rush speed but you have to admit the secondary has been playing its rear off

Defense is going to have to keep playing like that if we are going to stay in the playoff hunt. Cant lose to the Browns next week.

D played a good game tonight, no doubt. Some people are obsessed with Leftwich. He's a backup. Charlie Batch isn't Joe Montana.

Bright spot is that we are competing against the likes of the Dolphins, Bengals, Titans, and Chargers for two wildcard spots. Yeah, we'll likely lose to the Ravens again, but even with our backup QB's we should stand a good chance of winning every other game we have left with room for error. Waltz into the wildcard round with probably the Bengals and we may have a healthy Ben, Brown and Troy. Opposite of last year, so we could be dangerous when it matters the most.

Also, looks like we get to see a lot more of Cam Heyward by injury default. I'm predicting he makes a strong case for taking playing time away from Ziggy.

and looking at the schedule (and keeping an eye on the Bungles who are imo the biggest threat to us). currently 1 game (+ the win) ahead of them

steelers: REMAINING OPPONENTS: at Browns (2-8), at Ravens (8-2), vs. Chargers (4-6), at Cowboys (5-5), vs. Bengals (5-5), vs. Browns (2-8)
bungles: REMAINING OPPONENTS: vs. Raiders (3-7), at Chargers (4-6), vs. Cowboys (5-5), at Eagles (3-7), at Steelers (6-4), vs. Ravens (8-2)

so imo at least 3-3 (or better) for pittsburgh remaining, the bengals will be 3-3 (or worse).
other than that, i can't see a team overtaking us.

Right on. Charlie is like the "cult favorite" so to speak. He's done quite well as a Steeler...but he's also become fairly fragile too. Theres no telling he would do any better or not get hurt also. The only big difference I see is the way the 2 pass the ball...which in the new system could give the edge to Charlie...but still...theres no way to know if he'd do any better.

    Two bright spots I saw.

    1. I thought Heyward played pretty well.

    2. I'm loving watching Will Johnson blow guys up blocking for the backs!!!!

The D - especially Ike and Lewis- were great tonight! It was great to see Woodley and Harrison get their hands on Flacco. I wanted Charlie to start also, but there is no way of knowing how he would have fared. Leftwich looked decent the first drive and then got hurt...kind of hard to assess his abilities when he is playing with a shoulder/rib injury.

My bright spot is that even if we don't make the playoffs we will then only have 6 more games until we can watch Mike Wallace drive away from Pittsburgh forever. I can't wait.

The D was a bright spot for sure, but how about the fact that we are much better than the Ravens? If Ben plays we win that game pretty easily IMO.

Absolutely. As I said in another thread, this is what kills me about this game - the Ravens were very, very average. One effing punt return!!!

Tough pill to swallow for sure. I'd rather lose big then like that, a game we clearly should have won. With Ben in there, I think we would have crushed them.

This is the roughest part of the schedule for us not to be healthy.

Going to be a tough two to three weeks.

My thoughts exactly. They struggled all night against us. If they don't get gifted a punt return TD...we win even with that sorry display on offense last night.

Actualy the defense didnt give up a TD in this game, the kicking team gets the credit for that one: The D played their best game this year bar none..........

Now that you mention it actually, wasn't that the play there was a non-called block in the back?

Or was that a turnover return?
