The official Pittsburgh Steelers training camp thread

Nick Farabaugh rundown on what he saw at the first day of training camp. Lots of good talk in there. Some of the things I can recall:

Caleb Johnson looks faster than his 4.53 time.
TJ is moving around.
Defense looks to be doing more disguising and is doing a better job of it.
Roman Wilson might have a shot to be WR2 as he got a lot of first team reps.
Ramsey was not playing at safety. He looked really good at the spots he was in though.
JPJ was covering Metcalf today.

That is what I was thinking all along when the Steelers signed Patrick Peterson. If only he had been here 5 years earlier.

Fun Fact: When the Steelers play the Ravens at the end of the season, Both Peterson and Darius Slay will be 35 years old.

 

Any real news on why TE Jonnu Smith was a No-Go for today? I have heard Soft Tissue, and Heat Exhaustion.

I don't know if Smith was participating in any of the offseason workouts with Miami, or crashing at home on the couch for the offseason.

I wonder if Smith was just not in shape for the conditioning test.

Smith has been sitting out of workouts along with voluntary organized team activities in hopes of getting a new contract after outplaying his deal that had him set to make roughly $4.1 million in 2025.

They have some insurance for Slay if he falls off Jalen Ramsey can be CB2.

 

Every year I get excited to watch the first preseason games and every year I lose interest 5 minutes into the game. If I want to watch meaningless football with a bunch of guys who are going to get cut I would be watching the UFL (or whatever they're calling it now)

 

Quick sidebar on the UFL. I read an article yesterday that said the league may be relocating 4 teams. The LEAGUE. Not the team owners. I didn't know it was set up that way but if the team is not profitable enough, apparently the league can just move the team to another city.
One of those teams is Birmingham which it said won 3 league championships. 3-time champs not making profit so move the team.


Idk, just sounds weird to me.

 

If Jones is going to miss blocks like this Rodgers won't last for the whole season .

 

Would have gone to SC or Keystone Oaks but we moved to CA at that point. Went to St Anne's grade school in Castle Shannon. We played our home football games at the South Park Fairgrounds Football Stadium. At it's peak when I was there they had 4 classrooms of 50+ students for each grade 1-8, say 1600 total + the "special" kids. I look now and there are something like 173 kids in the entire school. Can you imagine nowadays figuring out who will wear what school uniform to school? Times and population dynamics have changed quite a bit from the 1950s-60s back when the average family had 5+ kids. Now probably just a bunch of old farts like us.

 

I hope that 1 play during TC doesn't define his season

 

At least I won't have to worry about that aspect. Broderick is locked in from a self discipline perspective in terms of his conditioning. Now, it is time for him to apply that towards improving his performance on the field. Getting euro stepped like that against Alex Highsmith isn't an ideal start.


That said, plenty of time in Training Camp for him. He has to pick up the pace though.

 

First day of camp and people are criticising his play.. First time at LT in a very long time.

 

But it's his 'natural' position. How can this be?

 

What's going to happen when he has to face Myles Garrett ?

 

I hope they have a backup plan if it doesn't work. Of course lots of time for him to do better

I wouldn't be surprised if Johnson has more carries than Warren this season, he plays faster than his forty time.
