The Browns have drafted very high for years and they're still the Browns. I get your frustration but high picks don't automatically translate to great results on the field

How often does reaching for need really work out? I just don't see it.

Teams do win the draft on the day of the draft. We just don't see the results for a while.

One way teams win is by getting good value for their picks. The Steelers failed to do that last night. They could have had a player who was a first-round value at a position of need in Thieneman, but they reached for a project. That is how you lose the draft.

Don't use the Browns as example, they are a dumpster fire as franchise

The more I read and the more I think about the pick, the less I like it. I am finally coming around to those who think Khan is a bust as GM.

Speaking of busts, this pick signals that even the Steelers know Broderick Jones was a bust. Hampton looks like a good pick, but otherwise, the Steelers have continued the trend of botching their first-round picks. Taking Jones over Gonzalez was a huge mistake. Taking Fautanu over Quinyon Mitchell was also a mistake. They did it again last night, reaching for a project instead of getting the safety help they need. Dillon Thieneman is a plug-and-play stud.

To make matters worse, Iheanachor isn't a left tackle, where the Steelers have their greatest need. They are going to have to move Fautanu. I wonder if Fautanu might end up being the solution at guard, with Cook and the rookie at the tackle spots. That is a lot of shuffling.

I am starting to think they shouldn't bring Rogers back. Despite Rooney's bluster, this team doesn't seem to be making win-now moves. They certainly didn't last night.

I would have rather had the safety from Oregon but for all those hating on this draft pick at tackle then you haven’t been paying much attention to one of the biggest needs lately for this team.

Jones neck injury cant be put on Khan and passing on Gonzales is no big deal because we got Porter. If Jones doesnt get hurt the Steelers would have had their tackle and CB.

We’ll have to see how Max turns out but I agree, I thought they would have pivoted to Thieneman.

Lets also not gloss over the KP pick with Linderbaum available and steelers needing a center. Even though Colbert was technically still the GM at the time, he was lame duck and I would find it hard to believe Khan wasn't involved in that decision. Instead they have a convenient excuse for the KP blunder by blaming it on the guy who is no longer in the FO. I blame it on Khan and Rooney.

Safety is a huge need for the Steelers, certainly more than right tackle.

Colbert talked about how he wanted to set the Steelers up with a franchise QB on the way out the door.

He had a series of bad drafts leading up to that one, that draft had his stink all over it too. I have to blame him and Tomlin for Pickett.

Like I said earlier Khan was telling the truth about being a top 30 visit, isn't a requirement to be considered in the first round. They had a formal visit with Max at the Combine.

The Eagles wanted one of the top WRs because they will likely trade AJ Brown in June.

Khan is not blameless. As a high level executive, it is unconscionable to allow your predecessor to make such an important decision that will impact the organization for 5+ years as they walk out the door.

There will be safeties available in the mid rounds I wouldn't take one in round one.

The best WRs left are Boston and Bernard, I don't think Khan can just wait until pick 53 to get one of them.

Passing on Linderbaum definitely set them back, too. They had terrible play at center until they took Frazier.

Why not? They did it with Troy Polamalu and got a Hall of Famer. They traded for one who was taken in the first round and Minkah Fitzpatrick became an All-Pro for them. The time it didn't work out was Edmunds, but the issue wasn't the position. It was them reaching, except he was an even bigger reach than Iheanachor.

I think there's still a chance they trade up in the 2nd for E. McNiel-Warren.
