The official 2023 NFL draft thread (no spoilers)

Could be a good method of drafting players if all else fails. Might make a film about it one day as it becomes the strategy that changes football culture forever. Forget Moneyball... its Honeyball.

The ONLY position we should NOT draft this year is WR.

 

No doubt we needed an OT but I just felt with Gonzalez there we really missed out on a franchise CB. I felt CB was a bigger need. Obviously the Steelers know a heck of a lot more than I do. This draft is heavy with CB’s, I really hope we get a good one in the second as I feel there will probably be a run on them in the second. I know they like Tyrique Stevenson.

 

Combine the two.

 

I just hope they don't take him at 32. Maybe if they trade back a few spots and Porter and Smith are gone, Stevenson could be an option.

 

I thoght it was going to be Gonzalez as well.

 

Kind of exciting waiting what may happen with our pick.

Wonder what kind of offer may come to us? Maybe even a 1st round pick in next year`s draft as part of a deal.

We don’t often pick low enough in the first round to get a premier career LT because high pedigree LT so often go in the top 10. And hopefully our record is great enough going forward that we aren’t slotted to pick low for a long long time.

Luckily there was a run on QB’s this year.

This CB class is deep enough to get a couple good ones later. I think this plays out like this.

The front office made the right decision, but I gotta say I felt equal amounts of excitement and disappointment because Gonzales was still there. And would have probably had he same double edge emotion if it went the other way.

 

I'm not sure they want to trade out of the second round entirely. I can't imagine a team giving up its own No. 2 and a first-rounder next year, but if that happened, they would have to take it.

Speculation is the Seahawks are one of the teams trying to trade up for Levis. If they could squeeze a third-round pick from Seattle along with their No. 2, which is 37th overall, I think that would be worth it. It probably means passing on Porter and Branch, but maybe Smith would still be there at 37.

 

I wonder if the front office had to be forthcoming to Belicheat who they were going to pick in the trade, because reports are saying it was just as much a move for NE to stick it to the Jets.

Living here in NYC I loved how it worked out for me personally. There are PLENTY of annoying Jets fans for me to really twist the knife at work.

My worse ever experience was at the Meadowlands watching the then 4-10 Jets beat our 10-4 Steelers in 2008. They were HORRIBLE to any opposing fans. Throwing food and starting fights all over the stadium.

Can’t wait to send Watt after Rogers in the playoffs and watch them limp home!

 

It is possible that the Steelers had to assure the Patriots they were taking Jones to get the deal done.

 

Yeah I kind of feel the same. I am coming around on Jones. I guess before the draft i saw a couple pundits talk bad about Jones and that lead my perception of him. I will be happy if we get some good back end talent today. I just miss not having a number one CB on the team and they don’t often slip outside of the top 10 either.

 

My only emotion was fear. I was thinking this better not be for Joey Porter Jnr.

It was more relief than anything when I heard Jones name.

 

I can't believe we got Jones, Against SEC defenses. He was the stud on the OL as Carter was on the DL. LT for two National Championships.

Broderick Jones is probably the best athlete in the entire offensive line class, he's very strong, has elite core strength, cat-like quickness, and has the speed of a tight end

• In 2020 as a freshman Jones saw action in just 2 games and played a total of 25 snaps for the Bulldogs.
• As a sophomore in 2021 he played in 11 games and a total of 434 snaps. He conceded 5 QB hurries, one QB hit, and 2 sacks while playing most of his snaps at left tackle.
• In 2022 as a junior Jones saw action in 13 games and totaled 805 snaps. He gave up 8 QB hurries, just one QB hit and allowed no sacks while playing at left tackle.

 

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking yesterday. I think BB proposed the deal on the condition we give our word we were taking Jones.

Yeah but thinking about human beings - there are far more athletes at the size of a CB in a more normal person frame. There should be a larger crop of to pick from year in and year out.

There aren’t always very gifted top quality athletes in that size and position that are worth the gamble. These unicorns are harder to come by. And they cost more to sign in free agency I would bet.

 

According to Matt Groh, Patriot's DOPP, you don't make trades based on a promise not to pick Player A. He believed that the run on T's would force someone to come up, knowing the Jets were looking for one. He also said they knew Washington liked Forbes over Gonzales. But there were no promises made.

People asked what was My biggest fear, and I said moving up, and Gonzalez being there , and not taking Him. We did both.
