There is a bunch of depth at WR. The fan base sees some of these guys as question marks, but the coaching staff has a pretty good idea of what they have in the younger guys.

I am well aware of who was taken with the pick. I have always maintained that had they not taken Landry with their original 4th they could've packaged that and their original 6th to move up 4 spots to grab Shamarko. In that scenario we'd have still gotten Landry in the 7th last year and Nix at 83 this year.

For the record, I like the drafting of Landry Jones. I just thought it was three rounds too early and too expensive in terms of giving up this year's 3rd.

Yea, really just hoping someone can step up.....

I was never a big fan of E Sanders, and really just thought an upgrade in the draft could have made our passing offense a lot better

I've been late to the party...though I was lucky to be around a TV right before both of their picks/etc...and i went back and read over most of the posts and commented on a couple...but I wanted to throw my actual thoughts in on things.

I've warmed up more to the Shazier pick...I didnt HATE it...but it was kind of a "MEH" pick to me at the time...I personally never really thought of LB being an option/etc in the 1st...so it surprised me a bit. Hopefully he can be the player they think he can and add a nice new dimension to the team.

Love the Tuitt pick...fills a big need...and i think he will be a solid player and probably a starter in the near future.

Archer...this one out of the 3 caught me off guard the most. I knew they'd get a speed RB...but I like most didnt see it this early. I dont think it was really a reach as most places had him as a 3rd round prospect (I think I seen a couple out there as a 4th...but most were 3). Apparently the value on their board was with Archer and not some of the other players out there...some of which should be available in the 4th...where Archer probably wouldn't have.

    Overall...

While I will admit...I was hoping for a CB in round 1 (even though deep down I didnt tihnk they would)...when that didn't happen...I really didnt see the value in most of the others until the mid rounds. Like someone said once the top 3-5 were gone...there wasnt much difference between a few who went in the 2nd/3rd to those who could be had in the 4th/5th. We all know the Steelers do not build their team about the CBs...its the front 7...even in this more pass heavy league. Yeah who knows they could take a CB in the 1st next year and surprise us...but I wouldn't hold my breath.

While obviously we all might have hoped/wished/etc for other players...none of us our experts...and just because we value a player highly doesnt mean the Steelers or other NFL teams do. There have been players some claim to be a late round pick that have gone in the top 2-3 rounds...and visa versa. Its all a crap shoot remember! Some of you need to relax a bit (I think most of us can name a couple people ahah) and just enjoy the draft! Instead of *****ing and complaining and crapping on things.

I think thats it...I'm warn out...I probably forgot something but oh well. Hopefully I'll get to catch a few picks tomorrow before I have to head out...is there some kind of free text notices that get sent out announcing the picks or whatever...I thought the Steelers used to have a text update/news service but I'm not sure if they still do...guess I'll have to look around.

I know they are very high on Wheaton. If he pans out and Lance Moore produces from the slot (and I expect he will) we really should be in good shape receiver-wise this year. Plus DHB should be able to take the top off once in a while to open things up even further.

Haha...ok...there are some out there that do not know this...so I just wanted to make sure. We could sit here and do the coulda woulda shoulda talk all night. Maybe they didnt like that option and wanted to keep those picks. They knew they'd get a 3rd round comp pick this year...so they used a future pick (which they rarely do).

I do not think Nix was even in their plans...if he was they could have had him in the 2nd...but they passed...along with just about every other team at some point. There was a reason for that. And the Steelers like McLendon at NT and such. I personally wouldn't be shocked if the Steelers dont have another Hampton kind of NT at that position.

I just dont think people should look at it as a 3rd for Jones...no matter if he was taken a few picks later. It was a 3rd for Shamarko...and thats how it should be looked as...which I think was a good move. Plus as a side note...a lot of sites had Jones in the 3rd-5th round range on average (I remember a few having him in the 4-6 range)...but it seemed like the general consensus was he was a mid round pick and thats where he went.

My top three for pick #118 are..

    Keith McGill
    Brandon Coleman
    Martavis Bryant

There is still some big WRs left, but I do like Moye a lot.

    Brandon Coleman
    Martavis Bryant
    Devin Street
    Quincy Enunwa
    L'Damian Washington

Starting to get thin at CB, I like McGill obviously and Dontae Johnson.

You're right, gp. He was rated as a mid-round guy and he could have easily been taken by someone else in the 4th if we hadn't, but another QB wasn't taken until the 7th. I just thought he was a luxury pick since Ben wasn't going anywhere and we had signed Grad.

Loved moving up for Shark and love Landry as a developmental QB just hated the uncharacteristic trading of a future pick. Then when that future pick turned out to be Nix (who I thought could make our front 7 depth impressive) it was salt in the wound.

This is what I do to myself. I'm still mad they took Ziggy over Laurenitis it's just not as fresh on my mind. :smiley1:

Okay. After the initial shock passed I was able to come to terms with taking Dri Archer. As always it takes me a few minutes to remember the front office and scouting personnel know much more than I do. Here's the way I see it:

Worse case - we have our first dedicated return specialist since Stephan Logan

Best case - we just drafted Tavon Austin at the end of the 3rd

I was pulling for Street from the beginning. He is everythingwe need plus he knows Heinz field. He is very adaptable considering he played for 5 different OCs and two completelydiff erent systems but still produced. He blocks well and is a huge team first guy. In two year I would love to grab his counterpart Boyd but I think he will be a top ten pick. I would love to see Street in a Steelers uniform.

To be fair, Chris Rainey didn't work out for "other" reasons. He was a great return man and would have been better and better if he'd stuck around. I also think he was a good fit for the offense, when they weren't asking to see his Jerome Bettis impression.

I considered we'd take Archer too (Haley), but I didn't see it coming in the 3rd. The good news is we don't have to wait another 1.5 rounds for our next pick. We're up soon, so some of those guys we all wanted with this pick will still be there.

Not my favourite pick but Haley's gonna love him.

I'd like McGill in the 4th and maybe Janis, the Saginaw St? Wideout somewhere in the 5th.

If you have an Android phone, you can download the free Steelers Gameday Plus app. I have it, and it has been sending pick notifications to my phone about 30 seconds after the podiums announcements.

Austin was drafted to be a starting WR indoors on turf. Archer is even smaller than Austin and will be playing outdoors on grass/dirt in the elements, and he's got even smaller hands than Austin does.

IMO the best case scenario is that he makes the team and is a gadget guy on offense.

I have hated this draft. "Hey, Ben! We know you're in your prime, so this is what we're gonna get you for the first two days.....two defensive players and a midget who may not make the team."

As far as that goes you already know that 3 of them will be outdoors on grass/turf in the elements (Cinci,Cleveland,Balt) so that leaves 5 and unless they play Atlanta, New Orleans, Minnesota, St. Louis and Detroit exclusively; will be outdoors in elements as well.
