This happens when the owners only care about money. The culture is top down and spreads fast.

I think Tomlin's time with the franchise has an expiration date. I don't know if its when Heyward or TJ decides the retire. Tomlin just doesn't want to experience a true rebuild and once those two retire, our defense truly will be in rebuild mode. They can't rely on over-the-hill FAs forever in attempts to keep this going. Once Omar/Weidle says we're in true rebuild mode is the day Tomlin and the franchise decides to move on from one another.

I think.... that expiration date is the conclusion of the 2027 season.

I also think... this team will be head and shoulders better than we are seeing currently by the conclusion of the 2027 season.

I like how we have drafted since Kahn became the GM.
I think Kahn will also be successful in finding the next HC, meaning team success on the field.
This is not a bad team. Just not a contender. Yet

At the conclusion of his contract may very well be the expiration date. It kinda lines up with a few factors like Dan III likely taking over and TJ retiring by then.

As for the team being better by, that really depends on drafting/development and seeing how Omar's guys are being developed, I'm not so sure about that if Tomlin is still in control.

We had the better talent in a lot of those embarrassing Playoff loses. It was obvious to see that the team was under prepared. That is on the HC.

Arians was the Steelers OC, not DC. Dick Lebeau was the DC. Both of those coaches ran their units when Tomlin was just a figurehead, ceremonial HC from 2007-2011. Now that Tomlin chooses his own coordinators and meddles too much with the defense... the results are not surprising.

For the record, I believe Arthur Smith is a good OC. A good OC in a bad situation.

160 million dollar (overpaid) defense and ranked 30th. I mean what more can you say. If this isn’t a direct reflection on coaching then I’m not sure what is.

Worst part is, I spent years defending Tomlin to friends, family and even folks on this very board. When you’ve completely lost your most ardent supporters, that’s a tell in and of itself.

The defense sucks and it’s the highest paid. We can suck just as good without Heyward and Watt.

I used to support Tomlin as well. My issues started with him over the Canada situation and drafting Kenny Pickett.

Oh trust me I know; however, it'll be easier for the fo to seek a true rebuild once they retire instead of retooling.

If we can trade Watt I would do that. Not sure what we could get for him with a declining skill set and a massive salary. I would like to see the younger Rooney get more involved. This Rooney is weak and indecisive. His Dad was much better. I think it was the younger Rooney that said it was crazy that we extended Watt and he was right.

I always said Watt was going to digress sooner than Garrett because Watts game was predicated on speed where Garrett is more power and it looks like that is bearing out.

Yea, his contract makes it impossible to trade him for a worthwhile return. It is what it is. We'll have him for a season or two more before cutting him loose. Heyward probably retires after this season.

Watt is still an elite player, you dont dedicate as much of your personnel to neutralizing a washed player as teams do to Watt.

Watt has said he is open to being moved around but as usual, the coaching is being stubborn. A play here and there wont cut it. He should be all over the place so hes not so easily schemed out of the game.

Because, I was one of those folks that looked at the bigger picture. Winning records, playoffs, albeit losing as time went on, not to mention taking us to 2 Super Bowls. I just never felt overreacting was productive for my well being. I still feel that way to an extent (under certain circumstances). I think a majority of football fans overreact to their respective teams.

That said, my patience began to gradually wear thin over the years. So yeah, probably the last 3-5 years I’ve been off the Tomlin train. This team desperately needs a change at the top and until then we’ll likely see more of the same.

I think the expiration date may be after a losing season.

The real bigger picture was that Tomlin always sucked. He just Barry Switzered his way to 2 (not 3) SBs.
