Pittsburgh has better luck drafting a QB in the first, but probably needs a top ten pick to get a franchise QB. It has been the formula for SB runs in my lifetime. Mason developing into a starter gives me nightmares of the late 80s- early 90s.

Here s the problem with assessing the future of Mason:

    - Ben stays healthy and plays well: Mason never plays
    - Ben stays healthy and doesn't play well: Mason almost never plays
    - Ben misses a few games : Mason plays but sporadically
    - Ben misses lots of games: Mason plays a lot, but the OL stinks and running game stinks, how much to
    hang on him?
    - Season is shortened or cancelled because of the Red Death: Mason barely plays.

One year from now, it's very likely that there'll be a thread on the Future of Mason with little more evidence than there is now. Ben will be 39, and maybe done. And nobody will know more about Mason's potential as heir apparent or whether they should give up and draft someone else or not.

What popped into my mind reading this is, if there is a season, but many of the players are basically replacement players, a team the rarely drafts in the top 10 could end up having a crappy record and “earn” the 1st overall pick. Could that be Darth Hoodie’s plan?

Idk. I don't see Belicheat ever picking in the top ten. Other than taking his own liberties with the rules I think he is one of the elite coaches to ever coach an NFL team. Up there with Noll, Gibbs, Walsh & Parcells. Too bad his legacy is tainted with multiple cheating episodes.

Great mind & coach of the game of football but no integrity or respect for the game.

Why would the O Line and running game stink only when Mason plays

I’m not a big Mason fan. But his stock just went up as the preseason got cut in half. Ben will need all the snaps he can take in both games and regular season practices. In hindsight, a FA back up like Winston would have been worthless. He would know nothing about our offense or players. He’d be behind Mason or Duck

I thought his best game last year was the first Cincinnati game.

He looked like the real deal in that game. Cinci was not putting pressure on him and trying to beat him in the backfield and he was picking them apart.

His 2 best passes that made a believer out of me were both incompletions, one was a pass interference and one the receiver just plain dropped.

I would love to find somewhere online that has a copy of the full game to post clips of the 2 passes to shut everyone up that doubts if he has an NFL arm.

He was never the same after the Hit in Baltimore last year.

Yes. Nothing says "real deal" like 2 incompletions.:facepalm::facepalm::facepalm::facepalm:

Thanks for playing. Your consolation prize is an autographed photo of Dracula. He sucks as much as Rudolph.

Just sew "GARRETT" onto the front of all the defensive linemen's jerseys.

Rudolph is the new whipping post/scapegoat for Steelers fans. As if Roethlisberger has done anything significant in the last 10 years... besides throw some deep bombs to Wallace and had a once in a generation WR in Brown who could catch anything within a 10 yard radius.

And yet he will likely wind up in the HOF.

Yeah....he did enough early in his career to get into HOF. Too bad he won't go out like Elway.

Too much input into the offensive gameplan. Horseface wanted a ring, Ben got his too early ...

Ben needs a "Terrell Davis" and there is no TD on the roster. And please don't bring up LeVeon Bell. Ben had his RB and wasted it. Window shut
    after 2017.

I need to look it up but Bell usually was unavailable for the playoffs I think. Ben's fault um no, sorry to rain on your parade.

Edit: you could peg Bells last playoff game on Ben, I look at the defense that game.

Bell was awesome when he did show up. :rawk:

Yes he missed some huge games. IIRC Bell (and AB after that notorious Cinci game) missed the playoff defeat to Denver in 2015 postseason. That game was there to be won even without them, so they probably would have won with Bell and AB.

Bell left the defeat to the Pats in the AFC championship game in 2016 in the first quarter. He had been tearing up the playoffs that year but unfortunately he sustained an injury the previous week against the Chiefs. The offence was running through him at that stage so it was a huge huge blow. Pats won convincingly but if Bell was 100% who knows.

Bell was awesome and it’s unfortunate that he sustained injuries at such crucial times. Winning a SuperBowl requires a bit of luck with injuries as much as anything else.

Bell was available for 2 out of 4 seasons in the playoffs.
    2014 not available
    2015 not available (Denver game)
2016 he was carrying the offense still the Cheats have Ben's #
2017 the Jacksonville fiasco but Bell played like an all-star.

I honestly believe Matt Canada will do wonders for Mason Rudolf.
This was the reason he was brought in. He also has a wonderful
    offensive mind.

Let’s hope so. And let’s hope he can have a galvanising impact on the whole offence, introducing some new things etc. If the offence can be even slightly above average they will be in most games.
