Wasted pick and poor talent evaluation. The negatives that we are seeing now were well chronicled in college. IMO, the last two QBs the Steelers drafted both reached the peak of their potential in college and will never be legit starters in the NFL.

I'm honestly surprised the Steelers are admitting Rudolph sucks and starting Hodges. I won't believe it until I see it.

That's fine but they at least thought they were taking it seriously as they had a first round grade on him. The intent was there. They just failed in their execution (assuming Rudolph has no hope going forward, something I am not quite ready to concede).

Tony Romo and Kurt Warner were undrafted.

Who had a better start to their NFL career at QB: Mason Rudolph or Terry Bradshaw? Didn't some consider Goff a bust his first year and then go to the Super Bowl the next? Didn't people think LaMar Jackson could only run and not throw last year?
Are we expecting new QB's to go to the playoffs their first year? Not saying we have Ben's heir on the team as of right now but it sure sounds like replacement qb's playing their first games in the NFL better have the sh1t together at the get go to please some people.

Not only does the Mason Rudolph era appear to be over, but so is his thread about the same topic.

Yes, but will he be able to finish or is he finished already after a few games?

I wouldn't write Mason off yet. Even Terry Bradshaw got benched several times the 1st 4-5 seasons.

I'm fine with taking the flier on Rudolph. The real issue was spending 3 years developing Dobbs and trading him a week before Ben got injured for a 5th rounder. All the reports were people knew Ben had an injury that week prior so they knew Ben was injured and still traded Dobbs. I think they honestly did it to give Rudolph the path and not create QB controversy for him. Anytime he has a bad throw or game people calling for Dobbs. Well now Rudolph is on the bench for a udfa that played college ball for FCS.

He has thrown hundreds and hundreds of passes in his life and he hasn't learned to step into the throw, and he has thrown a lot of passes in the NFL to still be throwing behind receivers. Poor snap judgements are one thing, repeated failure at fundamentals is another.

    Bradshaw

He showed tremendous potential every time he threw a pass. I’m not sure Mason has shown tremendous potential on any pass.

Hodges reminds me of Alex Van Pelt the former Pitt QB. Van Pelt was a backup and sometimes starter for the Bills for over a decade.

Duck will give us Tommy Maddox 2002 results at best. Steelers can still make the playoffs... but I don't see Steelers making a run past the divisional round.

Funny, if you all demand a 1st round pick at QB we have former 1st rounder Paxton Lynch on the roster.
I bet Denver would give anything to Undo that pick.

I wonder how short of a leash Duck will be on this game?

There is a big difference. I remember watching Bradshaw in his first years and he was exciting! He did things that drove Noll crazy and he tried things that seemed stupid at the time but later turned out to be brilliant. MR is violating the same fundamentals over and over which should have been taught out of him by his freshman year of college.

There is a big difference between throwing the bomb form your own 6 yard line on 3rd and 1, and throwing a wobble ball from your back foot two feet behind the receiver for the 15th time that day.
