    New this forum, used to be on steelersfever one.
    But anyways, I think the browns are doing a good job so far. Build the team first and then get a good franchise QB later on, it might even be RG3. Never know.

    Bolded is the current issue I have with the Browns. Their fans and city deserve so much more than that. Ogbah and Nassib are not even ready to play in their 3-4 defense proficiently and it is certain to say that they may not ever reach their potential due Cleveland's defensive philosophy being schematically ambiguous. Corey Coleman has a shot, but until whoever Cleveland's "Franchise Quarterback" comes, Robert Griffin III will detriment Coleman's growth considering the only routes Coleman knows effectively is the following;

    Stop

    True. However, as stated before, if you are a Steelers fan, as it was customary of those six Super Bowl's in previous years, the easy way really was not Pittsburgh's strong suitl. The hard way was. That being said, I would want to take on teams when they are at their best. It is no fun if it is not fair.

    I am sure you all know the Steelers employ a CMU metrics guy, can't think of his name.
    Maybe I am an antique in this society? I want to study the player against high end competition
    and see (eyeball test) his skill level over and over. I want to talk to him and gauge his love of the game.
    I want (and this is important)to see if he wants to tackle, see if he likes contact. If he doesn't he ain't playing for me.
    I want high motor guys, I want smart FOOTBALL PLAYERS. I don't care about work out warriors I want football players.

    Karim Kassan? I think the Steelers used some analytics in the draft too. Since they seem to have drafted very athletic players with production.

    Baseball has what, 162 games in a season or something. I'm sure analytics, averages, etc will be more telling with that wider spectrum vs the number of college football games per year coupled with the fact not every draft prospect plays all four years of his college eligibility.

    I agree analytics can have a contribution, but it's the same with just about everything else....its best used in combination with other evaluation methods like game tape and interviews. I think with the smaller sample size in football, game tape should still reign supreme. I'm not trying to be antiquated, I was one of the first to say that virtual sims should be used to evaluate draft prospects, just how I see it.

    Teams may use analytics to point them in the direction of certain players but that should be verified with watching the games and seeing the guys in action. Plus adding in the parameters of knowing the team's philosophies and the strength of schedule/conference.

    To answer your first question, no. Whether what the outcome was, good or bad (depending on your definition), those are the results that will be etched in history; regardless on sentimentality or otherwise.

    For your second statement, as I stated in the statement you quoted me, Pittsburgh is at its best when their backs are against the wall. All six of their Lombardi's showcase this. Nowadays, in an era where rivalries obtain more publicity throughout the media and within respective locker-rooms, teams often use that as an extra source of motivation. Should and if the Browns return to relevancy again, as a Steelers fan, you would want nothing but to beat them at their best. If anything, you should already relate to the exciting victories between the Steelers and Bengals/Ravens from the past couple of years. Such games often bring out the best in both. More often than not though, since the merger, Pittsburgh has always shown that it has thrived under instance odds; ones against their rivals doubly so.

    .. That may be. However, competition is what Pittsburgh thrives on. Until there is a new paradigm established, having their backs against the wall is something that the Steelers do better than most; a good reason to want the Browns to get better.
