Bill Polian fired. Caldwell probably not far behind.

With the #1 pick and Andrew Luck as theirs, it seems they're starting over.

What does this mean for Peyton Mannings future?

Colin Cowherd on ESPN said it would be stupid for them to draft Luck and still play Manning $25mil next year. A lot of money paid out to both QBs and one will be sitting so he thinks manning will be released/traded.

    Thats what Im thinking.

But thats unreal. I cant imagine Manning in another uni. Although if Montana went to the Chefs, anything is possible.

I see Manning around for 1 more season then retiring and coming back as a QB coach. If Luck is given the opportunity to learn under Manning for even just a season I see the potential for a pretty seamless transition...

Did anyone else think that the Jags might lay down to screw up Indy's chance at getting Luck? After all, they do have to play them twice every year.

Maybe, but remember, top picks don't get the $70 million contract like Bradford got a couple years back. Will be more in line with what Newton got last year. Still big money but I don't think it will break the Colts bank. Unless they pull off a mega trade, Luck will be wearing blue and white next season.

Crazy stuff. If Manning isn't a Colt next year, then who do you see him playing for? Great point about Montana to the Chefs.

    *moved to other team talk.

I don't think they will trade Manning. He will retire as a Colt. The Irsay's and Manning families have become extremely close over the years and I think at this point that relationship is bigger than money. As nuts as it sounds, this is one case where the decision won't be about the business side of football. They will draft luck and have him learn from Manning for at least a year, if not longer.

Maybe they should bring BA back there in some kind of role. Isn't he the one who made Peyton the QB that he is today?

I've believed all along, that even if Manning doesn't play a single down in 2012, paying him the $25 million could be the best thing to ever happen to the development of Andrew Luck. If you disagree, ask Aaron Rodgers about his upbringing after being drafted...

I'm not so sure Favre was a good mentor for Rogers.

I agree with shaner that Favre was not a good mentor, but at the same time, I think AR was able to learn a few things on his own. BUT, that being said, SC is also correct. A year under Manning will do Luck a WORLD of good, and when he becomes the qb coach...AFC south teams will need to worry.

Amazing what a good night's sleep will do for agreeability! :)

Am I the only one that's a little disgusted about the Colts draft situation.

They're virtually in the playoffs every year for awhile now. They've had one of the best QB's of all time for the last 14 years, and now their going to get the best prospect since Manning came along. All because Manning gets hurt and they can't manage to win a game till week 14.

They are bad but had Manning been playing, I still believe they would have won at least 9 games.

There's been so many teams for years that can't come up with a great QB no matter what they do. I'm not saying Luck is automatically going to be great, nobody knows that. However, Luck has all the signs of being really good. He's going to a good, stable organization. And Luck doesn't have to come in and try to help his pitiful team right away like a normal #1 overall pick would. He'll most likely get to sit and learn from one of the greatest and learn for a year or two.

It just doesn't seem fair. Indy has had their turn. I would much rather have seen a team like a Miami, Jax, Washington, Carolina, KC, or Tennessee have a chance to get a great QB.

    2 things:

    1. Welcome to the board

    2. Are you suggesting the Colts layed down all season just to earn the #1 pick? Not sure where your "fairness" claim comes from. (sorry, bad grammar but sounded too uppity the more proper way)

Just in the grand scheme of things it "seems" unfair. I'm not suggesting the Colts laid down, no. It's just that what are the chances that Manning goes down and they lose 14 games the very year that the next big thing is coming along so they can snatch even more glory. Adding to the fact that they HAVE and continue to have one of the best QB's ever.

It just feels like cosmically they should have to toil for a few years finding another good QB. I would just like to see a team that has "waited their turn" find a good guy.

It's not easy to get a great QB. It just seems like God smiling on the already blessed. I dont think god has anything to do with it, it's just a phrase.

Maybe Luck will fizzle out. There are countless stories of overly hyped first round QB's coming into the league and flopping. Even with a top pick, there is no guarantee.
