just like canada, chuks shouldn't have been signed to that big of contract to start with. poor use of money especially if he couldn't take over the LT spot after all this time. he needed to go as does dan moore. they have out lasted their usefulness. not enough upside. if dan can't play anywhere but LT we need to upgrade. just like we did with canada. was it the system or the players? that's what they have to figure out.

    Nope

And we don’t know what transpired first with Chucks

I have no problem with what happened to Chucks and how it happened

But also think the repercussions to a couple of other dimwits should have been more in line

IF that happens, it would another NAIL in the Tomlin / Rooney legacy.

    I gotta be honest here.
A lot of folks here, including yourself, act like it is some sort of CSI Crime of murder investigation and that punishment must be doled out.
It doesn't always work this way.

You, me and a couple other folks could own a football team.
We sit in a room and we all agree we need a QB, and Omar and the scouting team figure out that Penix is our guy.
We approve of a deal that gets us a 6th pick where we can get him.
We draft him and he flops.
This was our decision. Which one takes the fall? We make a mistake now and then.

Not everything falls to that line, but a lot does.
If Mike Tomlin ranted and raved for Canada and you and I totally disagreed with him but in the end said "ok"
    Then that is different.
I subscribe to "The Squires" line of logic. (Jack Kent Cooke.)
He said; "Alright but if this fails, it's your job."

I wasn't in the room and nobody will ever tell me who was.
I would agree from your standpoint if Mr Rooney had taken the same approach.
But I get the feeling it was a joint decision of stupid. "We'll give him a chance to right things."
They realized it and made a correction.... though much too late.

I am every bit as po'd as you.
And I do think Tomlin's somewhere around his expiration date.

he is on a short leash - just cannot believe he is getting YET another extension.

dumb decision w Canaduh and terrible decision w Trubisky - which in part, Tomlin has to say "HELL NO - he sucks!" But Mike does not see alot of it. His player eval is suspect to me and that did not start 2 years ago......

He and Colbert made TERRIBLE mistakes.

Lol, yeah, like he was a stud at sealing his side of the line for our backs for big chunks. Any wonder why our running game was so much better when he got benched in the second half of the season. Just look at the numbers our running game put up, that correlated to his benching

I guess you missed the massive difference in the running game as soon as they benched Okorafor.

Actually Rooney has More ties to Canada than Tomlin....yet somehow its Tomlins fault always.
It's the same people usually. Funny those same people will say....Everything is up to Tomlin, but then turn around if it's a good idea, decision, and or pick.....say....Great Job Rooney , and, or Whomever the GM is at the time. If it's a poor pick, decision , and or bad idea......See Tomlin doesn't know what He's doing. Hell some will even do this in the same comment. LoL

I guess you missed the massive QB pressures that came from the left side of the line while Moore was at LT.

Dan Moore wasn't exactly a stud at sealing the edge helping to create a clean pocket either. I guess it's the lesser of two evils. Now let's watch Chuks become an All-Pro in New England, lol.

No one got outplayed by Dan Moore...

PFF on Dan Moore: But the other side of the offensive line was supposedly the problem, with Pro Football Focus grading their left tackle as the worst pass blocker in the NFL. PFF graded Steelers left tackle Dan Moore Jr. with a 39.7 for the entire season - the fifth-worst of any offensive tackle in 2023.Jan 9, 2024
(By the way...Chuks' last full season's grade was 60.4, nothing to write home about but way better than Moore)

Obviously, Dan Moore outplayed Broderick Jones for the LT spot.

Broderick Jones took the starting job from Chuks and never gave it up.

Chuks is gone. Moore and Jones remain.

Those are the answers to the eye test.

No chance in Hell. Moore had veteranosity. That's all that mattered. Rookies are slow played while other players are given way too many opportunities.

What's the topic again? Oh Chuks. No longer a Steeler. Probably with excel like Dotson did away from here. Dotson just got a nice 3 year deal.

In any event they need a right tackle. And a center. And plenty of other things.

It was coming from the right side, too, when Okorafor was playing there. I don't know how so many people on this board watched the guy suck for so long and didn't realize it.

    I just don't see it.

Dotson was a powerful man. He was a man-mover. That translates when you put him in a system that fits him.

Chucks was never a powerful man at the point of attack. He always struggled run blocking whether it was zone or a power scheme. He just never showed that natural aggression or the ability to move the man across from him.

Run blocking is always going to be difficult for him. It's just not who he is as a player. He has some good athleticism which is important in pass protection, but he never seemed to be able to harness that athleticism and become a very good player. I never wanted the team to give him the contract they did. I hoped I was wrong, but he turned out as I expected and was never able to perform up to his contract.

Not exactly. Jones went to RT because Moore couldn’t play RT. Moore did get some snaps at RT (I think in the opener vs San Francisco) after Chuks got knocked out of a game, and he was even worse on the right side tha he is on the left. Moore had had a good quote about playing RT, something to the effect of it’s like wiping his butt with his left hand.
