Some ref after the game said the Chargers were in a illegal formation and should've been a 5yd penalty, with the Chiefs getting another try. Oh well too late now conspiracy lol Goodell wanted to screw the Steelers.

Not that far away, turn the dang plane around or get em back out there. We can do it tomorrow night, we need Monday night football anyways.

Screw Goodell, there has to be a ref whose job it is to count the players, otherwise the rule could never be enforced. I want to know who that ref was and have some kind of penalty imposed (sent to Arena league, no playoffs, fired, something)

I agree 100%! There needs to be some sort of financial penalty for refs that blow obvious calls like this. The blown call had huge ramifications for the Steelers yesterday and somebody needs to be held accountable!

Hey, maybe we'll get an extra draft pick!!! Oh, no, wait....we'll probably still get one taken away.

So much for being fair. If I remember correctly, the league would take a higher draft pick if the Ravens failed to miss the playoffs. I wonder if we get that draft pick back now that the refs blew this call on the field goal try? It did keep "US" out of the playoffs.

Refs are graded on every play and they are docked "points" for bad calls / no calls. Grades are used to pick postseason refs so guys with poor grades don't make the cut.

I hera ya ! BUT that's still just a slap on the wrist IMHO! Not enough of a deterrent for making bad calls or no calls when there should be!

Good teams don't have to depend on refs for the last game of the season so they can sneak into the playoffs after stinking up their season...When we lost that playoff game in Denver the broncos was in an illegal formation too, but the refs didn't call it, it was our fault that we didn't play well enough to avoid overtime, blaming the refs is just an excuse to not blame your self for your own mistakes:

After all the blown calls this year, I'm not sure how they will find enough refs to work the playoffs...

I agree. The Steelers didn't make the playoffs becuase they lost 8 games, period. However, this screwup is just a kick in the taint!

Now that the Ravens eliminated themselves we shouldn't lose a pick for Tomlin's blunder.

As for the refs, we win some and lose some. Have to be good enough to take care of business so the bad calls don't affect your season.

Are you saying the Chargers didn't depend on those refs, too? Fact is, going into the late afternoon, there were four 8-8 teams in the AFC and one at 8-7. Think any of those four 8-8 teams would have loved to have improved their fate by playing against back-ups on a playoff team? Hmm? Think the Ravens would have been better off playing a lay-down Bengals squad? This isn't about the Steelers needing help; it's about one team getting an enormous boost to get to 9-7, based on scheduling luck and then bad officiating.

It works like this, they want the underdog to cover but not win in most cases to maximize Vegas profits.

I am thinking I am going to boycott the playoffs this year.

They need to add an official in the booth to go over every crucial play, including penalty calls and non-calls. There is too much at stake. Take some of the power from the refs. This is getting to be a joke.

Oh horse ****, a bad call on the last play of the game couldve kept a undefeated team from winning the super bowl or any game for that matter.

I can't really blame the refs, and here's why: In a billion-dollar industry, they're part-time workers. Think about this. It's disgusting. Roger Goodell's secretary makes a lot more than the refs. Heck, the janitor in the league office probably makes more than they do, too. The rules keep changing--no pro sport has its rule book in constant upheaval like the NFL. And the refs have no say in these rules changes or any input in how they'll be officiated. More and more of the rules are "interpretive." And the guys expected to "interpret" these rules don't spend any time with the league or the teams to get a grasp on how this should be done.

The problem is the NFL. And they won't change this approach until it costs them money. How that will happen, I don't know. But perhaps, every time the league office has to issue an apology, they should also have to cut a check to the team that got screwed.

Bring back the replacements. They can't do any worse!

I hear what you're saying, but I hope the Steelers learned that when you have to rely on, to borrow a phrase from Peyton Manning, AN IDIOT KICKER ON ANOTHER TEAM WITH THE NAME SUCK-UP TO GET YOU INTO THE PLAYOFFS, you probably don't really belong anyway.

Reverse fining. I like the idea! Or an extra comp pick depending on the severity of the scenario.

I think full-time head officials would be an excellent idea. Not sure who, but someone on here suggested that earlier. Full time head official and the rest of the crew can be part-time, for now.

Agree to some extent, but I'd have liked to have seen if we could take the end of the season turnaround of sorts into the playoffs and (stranger things have happened)... run the table from the 6th seed again. Regardless, it is yet another bad call costing potential game changing outcomes, a trend that's run rampant this season and I'm tired of it whether it cost us or any other team a win/spot/etc. They can blah blah blah all they want about the penalties on the refs for bad calls, if it doesn't change the overall problem, clearly it's not a detrimental enough punishment to fix a larger problem.
