Man he must have really looked young because he about looks like a kid in Apocalypse Now. Lawrence Fishburn actually WAS a kid in that movie. He was under 18 at the time and I think might have even lied about his age to be in the movie.

All I remember about that movie was that the copy I saw was so dark, I could hardly see anything. What an acid trip. The earliest I can remember seeing Larry Fishburn (as he was known then) was in "Cotton Club"

If you can't remember anything about Apocalypse Now it is high time you watch it again! Greatest Vietnam movie ever and maybe just straight up the greatest war movie ever. It's probably a toss up between that and Patton.

Patton was great but, greatest war movie ever? "Saving Private Ryan", "Full Metal Jacket", the first half of "Stripes"............okay, that's a stretch. Apocolypse has one of the great lines in, "I love the smell of napalm in the morning!"

Yeah Duvall is the man in it. It's also awesome when Kurtz tells him that he's just an errand boy sent by grocery clerks to collect a bill. Brando is extremely creepy in that movie. I don't think he can ever top Vito Corleone but that role is as close as he ever got to doing that.

You need to watch Brando in his early movies, most notably, "on the Waterfront"! "STELLA!!!!!!".......Rocky who??

My wife and I have been looking for a new show and someone suggested Prison Break. I had always seen the commercials when we used to watch Lost, but never paid much attention to it.

We started and and even though you have to suspend belief quiet a bit with the way everything works out, we've found it to be a really intense show, and we're enjoying it a lot. Just started season two, so we'll see if that keeps up.

Apocalypse Now board me to tears, I honestly don't know what is so great about that movie.

I liked Platoon for best Vietnam movie and Saving Private Ryan for best war movie.

Ok. Turn in your man card. LOL! Man I really love Apocalypse Now. It's such an awesome story and Brando is soooo creepy in it. Dennis Hopper is great in it. Duvall is great in it. Fishburne is great in it. Sheen is great in it. I just don't see what's not to like about it. So many classic moments. "Never get out of the boat" is one of my favorites. Also when it was originally released the movie had no opening credits or closing credits. They were printed out and given to people. You just walked in to the theater and immersed directly in to Vietnam. I consider the movie more of a "experience" than I do a "war movie" really. Deer Hunter is sorta the same way.

Oh, I agree, cast and acting was great, I just didn't think much of the story. I did like the helicopter scene.

The "sacrifice" at the end was the only time an actual ritual sacrifice had ever been filmed as well. I love the idea of Sheen basically becoming Kurtz but then laying down his weapons. Fishburne was only like 17 or something in that movie and lied about his age to get to be in it. I still put The Godfather as Coppola's best but Apocalypse Now is one of those movies I could watch over and over.

Speaking of Godfather - I wish GF II could have exclusively featured De Niro as young Vito - he was terrific. IMO Pacino was unwatchable as that movie went on - talk about a hated lead character. Also as we've discussed before, it's a shame they killed off Sonny so quickly in Part I - he was engaging and added a lot of color to the Family (but I think you reminded me that he had a bigger role in the book). Oh well - still the biggest series/sequels in movie history I believe.

Yeah Sonny is my favorite too and he does have a bigger role in the book. The book actually goes by the same formula as the 2nd film in that it bounces back and forth between timelines. I LOVE Michael in part 2 though because he is SO ruthless and my two favorite things he does are when he slams the door in Kaye's face in the kitchen and when he gives the look for Rocco to kill Fredo...WHILE HUGGING FREDO! Just incredibly sinister. The real abomination of that franchise is part 3. I know Puzo helped on it but it's just terrible. The first 2 told the story of the classic novel and 3 was stand alone and should have never happened.

I agree, think Pacino is one of the best actors ever, thought he was great in this. I don't think I have ever seen him in anything that he was unwatchable. Awesome talent.

Agree also that first 2 were great, 3rd one, not so much. It was forgettable, not even sure what it was about, just remember a love affair between his daughter and Garcias character.

Yeah the incest was the worst part. 3 was about how the mafia had basically infiltrated the Catholic church.
