The penalty is for EXCESSIVE celebration. If you do away with the penalty, how long do you let guys dance in the end zone? 30 seconds? A minute? Do you let the TOs of the world break dance on the Cowboy's star? I'm a big proponent of "act like you've been there before"

I though we had 2 for the fighting crap. I know we were penalized a ton but was speaking more to the fact that we didn't retaliate to all the extra stuff going on. The celebration stuff don't bother me to much cause that is just part of the game now

His claim of an undisciplined team is weak. I haven't looked since the season was over, but around week 14 or 15 We were the least penalized team in the league.
In a game like last night I think we handled it pretty well considering all the crap the Bengals were pulling.

I think you need to change the friends you hang around. We didn't start the fight but we finished it. Did your friends see and gear the celebration of the players, coach, and fans when Ben got hurt? This is the classless, thuggish, idiocy of the bungals organization and their fans. They're are only two teams in the AFC north that are worthy of being rivals...the steelers and ravens.

Willie Gay needs to quit his excessive celebration dance. I take it Mike Tomlin hasn't spoken to him about it yet since he continues to perform those 15 yard theatrics. Why can't all of our players act like Heath Miller does?

That penalty was on Bud Dupree not Willie Gay.

I don't agree that Porter was in any way out of line or that he should be fined.

Porter did go on to the field to check AB's condition.

Coaches do that all the time and the rule, to my knowledge, has never been enforced.

I think the NFL will crackdown on coaches on the field vecause of Cincy's actions and not Porter's.

Porter was standing up for a 70 year old trainer who was pushed by Burfict when he got bumped in the back by a Bengal.

Also, Marvin Lewis was the first coach on the field! Watch the replay at :18 seconds.

It should never be wrong for a man to stand up to a bully especially when it is a senior citizen being bullied.

He didn't challenge Brady. God this thing gets out of hand the more people talk about it. He was asked by a beat writer if they could win the game. Any player worth his salt will say he has faith in himself and his team. What happened after that was a writer creating a story to sell the story. Instead of saying Anthony Smith is confident in himself and team mates he writes that Smith has just gaurnteed a win. Same writer who spread the story of how much Harrison was offered in his paycut from the Steelers that got fans whipped into a frenzy. Now let's kick that tangent to the curb.

I would also say that you and Shaner are using a pretty broad brush and throwing a lot of stuff into your paint. There is some discipline issues I agree but there are also guys who show some amazing discipline. I think last night Foster, Wallace and perhaps DeCastro were trying to goad Burfy into something but as the game progressed they gave it up and focused on winning. As far as Porter goes give it up guys. If he is Tomlin's designated coach for injuries he has every right to be there and until you can provide proof he wasn't it is a non story

Whether it's lack of discipline, lack of basic clock management, or an atrocious play call (empty backfield on 1st and goal from the 1!), what gets me is making mistakes that are inexcusable. Football mistakes happen, but why do something that hurts the team when you don't have to?

Gay's dance is the perfect example. The celebration rules are stupid and confusing, but we know what they are. He earned that penalty the last time we played the Bengals. He should remember. He thought he had a TD, so he starts his dance. Why? Why not wait until you're on the sidelines? Why is your dance more important than winning a playoff game? ALL that has to happen for it to be a penalty is one of your teammates does it with you. Damn it, William, you're supposed to be the smart one. Obviously they are going to join you when you are so charismatic. I swear I could see the whole thing unfold in slow motion. Score, dance, teammate copies, flag. Thanks a lot. Our kick coverage hasn't done a thing since we got this kicker, so let's see what they've got, is that the idea?

That's just one play, but it is telling, in my opinion. That was a leader of the team putting himself - not just his dance moves, but the urgency of his dance moves - before the game everyone is working so hard to win.

Oh well. Check out my new signature!

Whether it was Gay or his dance partner, it doesn't really matter to me. The main concern is it's a 15 yard penalty and those often kill teams especially in the playoffs. They want to continue it then they should go on Dancing with the Stars. They want to help their team win, then get back in the huddle.

No, it was because two teammates were dancing in unison, which is, absurdly or not, a penalty. Vonteze Burfict was the definition of excessive celebration, yet it went uncalled. These celebration rules are stupid because they are inconsistently applied and wind up affecting the outcome of games. GODdell is a ****ing idiot.

Take the stick out of your butt. It's clear that some people whine just to whine. We've actually got people crying about the Steelers being an undisciplined team even while being one of if not the least penalized team in the league. This is coming after a game in which our discipline was the difference in winning and losing. You can't make this up lol.

You should check out the stat JPP posted. We didn't get a huge quantity of penalties in and of themselves but we did finish very high in penalty yards. That's not good. That means we got a lot of personal fouls apparently.

I don't know who you're referring to or what stat they posted but the Steelers were only 23rd in penalty yards, the bottom 3rd of the league. There seems to be an agenda to paint the Steelers as undisciplined despite the reality of the situation.

No the stat that he put up was saying that teams got penalized a lot against us and I just read it wrong. Although last night we did have like 4 PF penalties called on us. The Munch thing, Shamarko, Cam's facemask, and the celebration penalty. Am I missing another or was that all of them on the PF front? We also had a PI and maybe some more. That many penalty yards could be brutal if it happens again. I hope it doesn't. I really don't even know if the bungles had more or less penalty yards last night.

Not going to get into this debate again but penalties are not the go to stat for team discipline. Too many things that are covered and that aren't too many not caught while others are. I will say that many many of the players on that field last night on both sides were not undisciplined, were in control and were playing with in the rules of the game. Some were not unfortunate that those who weren't had an impact in a contest that was this hotly contested.

To each their own but that really has nothing to do with my post to Shaner. I don't think you can be penalized for celebrating on the sideline.

2 players celebrating in the end zone is.......................excessive. While I agree that Burfuct should have been penalized (for a lot of things) if you just hand the ball to an official after you score, there won't be any excessive celebration penalty. Simple!

I was very happy to see our guys holding back while the Bengals imploded during the Porter sequence.

If you think Tomlin is ever gonna fix our undisciplined problem, it's never ever gonna happen. Mike Tomlin is who he is, all talk with little job performance. We have been very undisciplined since day 1 of his tenure, & still is since yesterday...

I'll take the "stick out of my butt" when Willie Gay stops doing his 'look at me dance' and realizes that giving up 15 yards really does hurt the overall team. Just think how many less penalties and yards that this team could actually have if they only had a little more discipline but then again we are dealing with a MT coached team and not one of a Chuck Noll stature so I don't expect that to happen anytime soon.

Me too. That Willy Gay v.1 dance against the Bengals was a thing of beauty. I wish it would have gone on longer.

I'm generally a fan of the "act like you've been there before" crowd, but what Gay did after his pick-6 was just fantastic. If you're going to go, go all out!

I don't ever want to see it again, but the 'crawling on your knees' deal back to JPeazy was just in a word... awesome. Now stop it, Willie.
