We have a great history in Pittsburgh; Defense. I was reading about Profootball focus article with the rankings of each player at each position. It was interesting but just someone else with an opinion on how we shape up for the year.

After I read it, I starting to think about our number 1 rated pass defense over the past 2 years and its increase for a couple years. It has been far better under Tomlin. Is it because of his origination as a DB coach?

Dick Lebeau has been a genius of modern football. Hell, he even played the position. He created a new style of defense years ago, could there be an assimilation of 2 concepts creating not a new style but an new wrinkle to the 3-4 scheme?

Carnell Lake is the best recent coach move we have made in a while. Probably the winner of this message boards favorite off-season move 2 years ago, Lake bring in an ability to connect with the young guys and also experience in the system. Is it his knowledge of the defense that has removed the learning curve allowing young corners to step in and not miss a beat.

I wondering if its is the Rooneys, with the league moving in a passing direction, making sure to sign all of these guys and put them together?

In Cowher era we never saw this ability of our secondary. Does this continue or are they all at their peak, with the injuries I cant presume why.

I consider it a trickle down where both have learned, Tomlin and Lebeau, from each other. Zero big plays allowed last year (over 30 yards). That sounds like bend but dont break defense; That is a Tampa 2.

Just imagine how much better they could be if only Ike could catch the ball.:hmmm:

I don't care as much if he catches it as long as the other teams # 1 don't catch it. they don't score, we can't lose.

If Ike catches it though, that series of downs are dead and then Ben and company gets to go to work.

yea, for our rb's or qb to fumble, throw picks or our wr's to fumble or drop passes. we handed way to many balls back to the opposition last year. 7 or 8 in the Cleveland game alone. both sides of the ball need do a much better job of it. as for ike , with his speed, if he could catch, he would have still been playing offense.
