How does Oakland beating Broncos other than game tape help us

Very little. If the season ended today the Steelers would miss the playoffs.

If Denver continues to lose and somehow the Chiefs win that division and we take care of business against Denver and end up tied with them for the wild card then we'd have the tie breaker.
Don't know if that's 100% true. but sounds right.

Good thing the season doesn't end today.

But thankfully the season doesn't end today. Our Steelers still control their own destiny. Win out and they get in the playoffs regardless of what any other AFC team does.

I don't think it helps because next week will be a must win for them. Best case scenario somehow the 49ers beat the Bengals and the Steelers handle business. Then the Broncos and Bengals will be tied and that game will most likely decide 2nd. Broncos win and the Steelers handle business. Tied with the Bengals. What's the tie scenario?

Bengals and Broncos losing all those games though hurts because Patriots can let the Jets win and still get 1st. We need the Jets to lose one. Unless we want to rely on Buffalo winning a pointless game in the last week. It's looking like that first scenario is the best case, sadly.

Sure about that? If the Chiefs and Jets win out, they remain ahead of the Steelers in a WC tiebreaker. The Bengals still need to lose two, as do the Broncos, for the Steelers to catch them. So Denver could lose to us and win the other two; the Bengals could lose one more and still take the division. These all assume we win out.

    EDIT:

Updating now that I got a minute to double-check schedules:

    Jets: @Dallas, vs NE, @Buffalo

Chiefs: @Balt, vs Cleve, vs Oakland

Broncos: @Pittsburgh, vs Cincy, vs SD

CIncinatti: vs SF, @Denver, vs Balt

Basically we just need to focus on winning each of the last three games, that's all we can control. But to get any postseason action we're gong to need someone else to lose. The Jets/Pats presents some hope; the Broncos dropping to us and Cincy, maybe; Cincy collapsing without Dalton?

    One week at a time.

The only way we get the 2 seed is if we win out, Cinci loses out, and Denver only wins against Cinci the rest of the way (and the host the Chargers week 17, which may be nearly impossible for them to lose)

100% sure we're in if we win out. The tiebreakers will fall in our favor over the Jets if both teams win out.

Not so sure. If the jets win out.... They will be 8-4 conference.... KC is already 7-2 conference plus head to head against us...... Next would go common opponents..... It's still a bit convoluted

No it's not the Steelers and Jets have 4 common opponents on their schedules. Those teams are the Browns,Patriots,Colts, and Raiders. If the Jets win out they would finish 3-2 against those teams, if the Steelers win out they finish 4-1 against those teams. That's how they win the tiebraker. Pretty much the difference would be the Raiders game. The Steelers beat Oakland and the Jets lost to Oakland.

SteelElvis and steel_ben are correct. I overlooked that if the Jets and Steelers win out it ties their conference win %, which then prompts the common opponent step. Good catch!

    Per NFL's Wildcard Tiebreaking rules:

If that's the case why aren't the Steelers 6th seed right now? Rest of the games don't matter for that scenario. Doesn't make sense.

Edit - Nvm, it's because they have a better conference record right now because they have one more game.

    According to espns playoff simulator...

The Steelers own the tiebreaker over the Jets if the Chiefs, Steelers, and Jets win next week. This is because they own a higher win percentage against common opponents.

Therefore.. If they all win out the Steelers are in.

Don't forget that bungals are now beat up,injured, wounded and down right soft. Without Dalton....could cause them the division

KC has to lose too because at 11-5, they'd win the AFC West if tied with Denver, then beat the Steelers due to the HTH win over the Steelers. That KC loss is really hurting. Had the Steelers won that game, they'd need 1 in their final 3 to clinch a playoff spot and they'd have a real shot at the AFC North too. That game really sucked.

Maybe they resort to Peyton, if he's healthy.
