Cajun, since we're being frank here...there hasn't been a problem with this in 3 years. There's no reason to derail this thread.

Well, I suppose I should apologize for starting this whole mess with a word choice I knew would probably offend someone. I couldn't help it, it's just one of my favorite swear words for some reason - probably because, while other swear words are becoming more and more tolerated over time, this one seems to be headed the opposite direction. Most "bad language", like sh** and fu**, were bleeped on television and rarely used in movies when I was a kid, despite the fact that they don't really mean anything bad. God**** was treated like a not-so-bad one, just like damn. Those are kind of switching now, as people either become more easily offended, or more open about the offense they take (it's not the only one - a certain three letter F word is also rightly being taken more seriously now). I guess I'm a rebel at heart, and also a bit old-fashioned. I just like the way it sounds, I suppose, and I've always put it in the pile of regular, harmless swear words, as opposed to the serious ones that can cause actual damage (like ni****, f**, and red****). Maybe I should make the change.

I'm not that sorry though, because I got a lot of entertainment out of it.

Oh! I just remembered another reason I use it sometimes. Has anyone ever seen In the Line of Fire? I've always loved that movie, and my favorite scene is when secret service agent Clint Eastwood is talking to maniac and assassination hopeful John Malkovich on the phone, and it's growing more and more tense. At the end of the call, Malkovich doesn't think Clint is being respectful enough, and points out that Eastwood is only even alive because Malkovich elected not to kill him earlier in the movie. He says, "You are alive because I have allowed you to live, so you show me some GOD**** RESPECT!!" It's a great scene, and years later I saw it on TNT, and instead of just bleeping the word in question, they replaced it with "sincere." It was a terrible dub-job, so the audio didn't match, and it was out of character, too. And the shot was a close-up of Malkovich's face, so they really had no hope of making it work at all. It was laughable but frustrating, and I resented TNT for it. So there's that. There's a little glimpse into a random corner of my brain.
