The dude is on every play on special teams, teach him now in the offseason inside linebacker, it will help strengthen that area

Don't hold your breath. Mike doesn't know how to think outside the box. The Standard is the Standard.

Would we have to sign someone else to stand on the sideline for $3M?

What team in the NFL would move a 29-year-old, six-year veteran to a completely new position?

For some reason that guy in New England popped in my head. He'd probably make it work somehow but I agree it would be tough for a 30 year old to change over to a new position.

The closest he came was playing wide receiver Troy Brown some at cornerback when the team was desperate due to injuries. That isn't the same thing as a full-time position switch from offense to defense.

If he could play linebacker he wouldn’t be a fullback

People who can play WR don’t play DB

    Etc

You are correct, but I would. It's all about the Defense in my eyes, and couldn't ever understand the guys who wanted 2 play offense. Unless You were a Qb.

Maybe they could use Maulet at H-back. Hey, all the Yinzers said that Stewart would have made a great cornerback back in the day.

They couldn't teach Devin Bush to play linebacker and you want them to try and teach a full back how to play linebacker? Don't think that's going to work

What team in the NFL would waste such a roster spot?

Every team in the league has guys who mostly play on special teams.

I think with Ben gone, and us likely operating with the QB under center a lot more, we will see more D. Watt on offense.

    Please stop moving the goalposts.

First, somebody claimed the Steelers not moving Watt to linebacker was a reason to criticize Tomlin for not being able to think outside the box. I asked if any NFL coach would try such a move with a six-year veteran. Of course, nobody could come up with even one, helping me make my point.

You then chose to shift the argument by asking who would waste a roster spot. I correctly pointed out that teams keep guys just for special teams all the time. Now you are trying to move the goalposts again to talk about his salary. Did the Steelers waste too much money on a guy they barely use outside of special teams? Yes. I never suggested otherwise. That doesn't mean Tomlin is wrong because they haven't tried Watt at linebacker, and it doesn't mean he is a wasted roster spot. The guy is a good special teams player.

Here’s one to scold me for. I have said for two years that we should use TJ Watt as TE in the red zone.

I believe he played that position in collage more than he played Edge.

He would be a great attention grabbing decoy for the defense. He’s big enough and fast enough too.

I always wished that we copied the Patriots scheme of have two big athletic pass catching TE on the field at the same time (sans the murdering). It gave defenses fits on how to cover two fast guys of that size with great hands.
