I'm curious when did this get started the media and fans always say Ben wants a big receiver to throw to. I never heard Ben say he prefers a big receiver over any smaller one's. I mean every team would love to have a Calvin Johnson but the Steelers won 2 Superbowls with Ben throwing to smaller receivers who both were the MVP's of the game Ward and Holmes. The team could use a big physical receiver especially in the redzone just that I don't recall Ben asking for one, or maybe it had something to do with the rapport Ben had with Plaxico Burress his rookie season.

Bigger the target the less accurate you have to be. Not saying that is Ben's wish but when you have a guy over 6' 4" it gives you options instead of trying to thread the needle you can put it up and let the receiver go and get it. It also usually mean they have longer arms which can help if you put the ball out in front of them.

Well, in his defense, he hasn't had a steady one starting since Burress his first year. Even Brady had his best year when he got his when they got Randy Moss.

Moye might be our guy. If he would of caught that td pass last game, his stock on this board would be blowing up.

How tall is Steve Smith, Wes Welker?Accurate passers don't need tall receivers just
receivers that have good hands and good route running skills
and big hearts. Hines Ward kind of fit that mode didn't he?Steelers chose to sign him to big money over Plaxico Burress did they not?
    How big was Jerry Rice?

marino made it work well with duper and clayton. as thorn said and I've mentioned before, it take less accuracy with a big body. ben never was outstanding at hitting a receiver coming out of his break on the run. just not what his strength is.

between moye and hopefully next year brown along with the two smaller faster guys in wheaton and AB, we could have a good combination at WR.

add heath and another good TE (which are also big receivers) and there should be plenty of options for ben.

I'd prefer a burner drafted, big or small.

WR, JMO is not a huge priority! We
have them here, but must put them
    in the position to succeed!

Guys Guys Guys, CHILL. Marino has zero rings. Ben got 2 and a half Rings
Moye dropped a pass. Doesn't happen often
I also hope we get at least one more year out of PLAX I want him to go out on top. Like da Bus

Yeah, I don't know what the debate is. It's nice to have size and talent in your wide receivers. Can you do it with small guys? Yes. Is it nice to be bale to have a little more range to throw to? Hell yes!

I don't know any QB who's going to sit there and tell you they don't appreciate what a bigger guy can give you.

well first off the qb doesn't do it alone and ben had one heck of a better team around him than marino ever did. my reference to marino was the amount of scoring and yardage he put up with small receivers because he had good accuracy and let those guys do their thing after the catch. they were deadly. that's just not ben's strong suite.

yes' I also agree lizard, why not want a big fast receiver to throw to, but everybody wants that too. there just aren't a lot of calvin johnsons out there. heck i'd take 5 if they were available. smaller wr's have made their marks also throughout the NFL. it takes a more accurate passer to consistently hit them at the right time and the right place. you also need protection to throw to any wr consistently. a nice mix i'd think is the way to go.

or we get rid of all wr's and draft TE's. big fast one's that can block and catch would help.:smiley1::cool:

Tall receivers make better targets for sideline routes like fades and sideline go routes, also for deep passes as you have less of a chance to overthrow them and they can reach higher. Simple geometry but they still have to have enough speed, vertical jumping, and other receiving skills.

The Steelers have chosen an inside guy as their #1, Brown, who is a Ward type receiver just with a slightly different skill set. They need an outside threat to make full use of Brown, either a tall guy (Burress) or a speed guy (Holmes, Wallace); that guy has not emerged yet and may not be on the team.

Smaller receiver are typically more athletic. The bigger a guy is, the harder it is to find the other skills for a wide receiver. That is why guys like Calvin Johnson are so rare. Or else they tend to play basketball.

Yes, but you have to play what you do have. Give them a chance to fill out and develop or not develop. They may not be burners, but the time comes when you need a guy that can just go get it.
