It has become an unarguable article of faith, that this team is full of talent.
    Yet, they are 8-6-1.

I propose that maybe, just maybe, the talent ain't so great. And that's why they are what they are.
Maybe the 'on paper' talent isn't what is imagined,

Blame the refs, blame bad luck, blame the coaches, maybe we might consider blaming the talent.

    Flame away

Bud Dupree is a bum. Defensive Coordinator with his 5X7 play card is also terrible. Other than that we are very much above average in talent especially on the offensive side of the ball.

I don't know many teams that could have gone into that environment, with the Saints playing for the #1 seed, and have the game in their hand. But like the year, mistakes were too costly and nullified their talent.

Talent on D is okay...not great. And you need to be great to win rings.

Offense...has great talent, it doesn’t always mean wins. Is it fair to say underperforms?

Offensively they are as talented as anyone. Execution is another story. Turnovers have killed this team all year. Especially in scoring territory.

Defensively is another story. Dline is solid but outside of that. Rest is average. Sad thing is. They played good enough to win today.

It's all about execution. They never learned how to execute when it mattered. All yr.

That said. If they get in, they CAN win it all.

I get so tired of fans saying that crap, this team has all that talent, no they don't . The defense needs a lot of help.

Better defensive coaching will change the talent perspective but Bud Dupree still stinks at pass rushing. Today was exceptionally bad.

They might need a new DC, but still get a ILB who can run sideline to sideline, and another OLB to compliment Watt.

I'd be happy with a stud OLB as a bookend. That would at least allow our pass rush to mask the deficiencies in the secondary, like under DL.

Talent without brains, discipline, and football IQ is worthless. The team needs to stop reaching on players who have all this raw physical talent yet don't understand how to play their positions, especially on the defensive side of the ball. A better reason is since we don't seem to have a coaching staff that can develop them.

Just like in business, the Steelers need to move up in the talent curve.

I think you’re right to an extent. We have gone over a decade with late round draft picks. During that period we have also whiffed on a couple first round picks. However a large part of our pain this year was totally self inflicted. Poor play by Ben cost us a couple games and Boswell’s play cost us a couple more. Toss in a few costly fumbles and we are on the outside looking.

I just think it’s seriously time to consider a coaching change with Mike Tomlin. He has just not done a good job making key decisions in games and just overall in general especially this last month or so when the Steelers have collapsed. If you’re not going to do it now after being 7-2-1 and missing the playoffs with as much talent that I believe is on this roster then when will you do it??

And WHEN was it good? Common Dud supporters? Joke of a player let alone being a 1st round pick. Patty cake Dud while Watt is getting mauled.

What do they do now with Dupree? Burns? Both should be gone. Hold the door for Sensabaugh as well for a start.

Vince Williams is a nice player but an upgrade is needed.

Most of us believe that Butler and Porter should be fired.

ILB should be a priority in the draft. Corner should be the priority in the free agent market. Resign Chickillo and see what Ola can do, extend Haden.
