I'm sure there will be a lawsuit from the person he hit also. He better get a defense better than the one he plays on or he may never get out of jail!

I know you're getting frustrated with BFT's over the top knee jerk comments, but I don't think self inflicted mental obstruction is going to fly.

Exactly GB. All this talk about this being Tomlin's fault due to lack of discipline is laughable. If a guy is gonna go out and be a damn knucklehead that's a decision he and he alone decided to make and it wouldn't have mattered who his head coach was. Through the years Tom Coughlin and other coaches known to be hard on their players also had idiots on their teams that demonstrated a total lack of judgement.

I'm usually all for second chances, but if I'm the Rooney's I'd send him on his way. Just an ugly situation the whole way around, I know he was talked up big during our draft, but I was less than impressed when I saw him play in preseason.

what is the sistem there ? i mean if you are at the first convinction you go to jail or you have some discount , i mean in italy you have 2 years bonus , if you are sentenced for the first time and is no more than 2 years you go out free , if you do something another time they will add the past sentence .

Agree with both here. Tomlin bashers can complain about a lot of things, but he's the head coach, not the head babysitter. I wouldn't doubt that he said something before the weekend off along the lines of, "Don't do anything stupid on the weekend off..." or something like that but other than that, they are adults. They'll do what they want and face the consequences. the "discipline" part will come in how the HC/FO responds. If it's as bad as the media reports (innocent until proven guilty) and he isn't cut or at least face severe penalties from the team, THEN we can talk about discipline.

That happens all the time. What he plead to really has nothing to do with what he did. Sometimes there's a difference between evidence a guy did it and evidence to convict. Sometimes the court throws out evidence so it can't be used at trial, sometimes the evidence is enough to convince the prosecution and most reasonable people, but maybe not enough to convince a jury if the defense has something on their side, like a charismatic defendant or celebrity or football star, a "technically possible" alternative theory to create reasonable doubt, or something else weird. If they don't think they have enough evidence to convict, they won't waste their time, and will instead use his testimony to get at least one of the guys who did it. That way they don't come away empty handed. If they'd tried to get all three guys, they'd be without the testimony of two of the guys, and might get none. They took what they could get.

Tell that to Holmes. Tell that to Plexico. Almost a 'tell that to big ben'. Tell that to Allan F. The Rooneys are not all about winning, they have an image and reputation to live up to as well.

Ran across an article by Mark Kaboly who spoke with a bunch of Steelers players.

“You don’t ‘Amen’ this as in it is OK to do, but you don’t throw him away,” Clark said. “You don’t exile him from the team, you don’t stop talking to him, you don’t stop being his friend because if you are family, you don’t do that. I want to help him through this and help him be part of the Pittsburgh Steelers and, if that’s possible, when he’s back, he is going to be the same brother before this happened.”

edit: Fellow nose tackle Steve McLendon said he was surprised to hear of Ta’amu’s involvement in the incident. Ta’amu is widely regarded by his teammates as a down-to-earth family man with a pleasant demeanor.
Found that part highly interesting, hope it really was the one collosal stupid mistake that pretty much everybody does in his life and it helps him keep his priorities straight once this whole thing is over.

I went and watched an interview with him on youtube last night and I was like "THIS guy!!!??? THIS guy!!!?? You've GOTTA be kidding me!!!" He didn't seem like someone that would go out and do this crap but we're all just human. Still I am in favor of letting him go. I just don't like the fact that he was stupid enough to endanger innocent people. Let him go do his time and then come back and try and EARN his way back if he really wants to be here. It's like those wonderful philosophers in the 80s glam band Cinderella once dramatically said "Don't know what you got...til it's gone!"

Ok Ok.... I have made not quite a 180 on this one (maybe 160). It is true, the Steelers do owe this guy a chance to turn his life around if he is willing to play ball. The Steelers know have to dig deep and find out what this guy is all about. From my research during the draft, this guy was pretty clean and was a LEADER.

He obviously made a HORRIBLE decision. Unfortunately, he compounded that decision about 15 times to make is so very much worse. I am hoping these poor decisions were a direct result of alcohol and not his normal decision making process.

I think the Steelers should be very clear on this one. "Touch another drink EVER again in your life and you are out of here."

If he serves his time like a Man, goes to all the programs, gets clean and never drinks again, maybe he can turn his life around. The sports world is FULL of second chances. Let's get this guy right and hopefully he can help us down the road.

Being completely mercenary here. Taamu is a 4th Rounder, a reasonably high pick, put also a round where a fairly high % are journeymen or worse. He can't dress for this team, which has clear and obvious shortcomings on the DL.
I don't follow these guys like some of you do. Is he worth the trouble? What's his upside? For all I know he's a dime-a-dozen jabroney, am I wrong?

Casey Hampton is his mentor. He was drafted for the specific reason to replace Casey. Casey wants him to stay here and so does Ryan Clark. We obviously don't have a replacement for Casey Hampton and to run a 3-4 we REALLY need a big fat nose tackle in the middle. He also can play either scheme as well which makes him versatile. But I don't think it's worth keeping a guy that you don't know whether or not you can count on. I think his salary is like 2.5 million or something like that. But even IF the law goes easy on him you KNOW Goodell is gonna have a field day with him. I don't expect to see him playing for us any time soon REGARDLESS of the legal penalty he has to pay. I say let him go and get someone else. We have seen this year that Casey is basically done and it's time to get someone in there that can play now.

Ta'amu was considered a steal in the 4th round....he can be a poor mans Ngata.....and his 2.5 mill is over 4 years!

You keep his rights....and see how the situation develops until he proves he can not play at this level or is a repeat offender.

Me personally, I think Ta'amu was over hyped on this board coming out. He might have been a steal or it might have been a waste of a trade up.

Looking back at history of Steelers I think he gets a second shot with the team if they think he has potential--If he slips up once he is gone.

However, I still say if they think Mcclendon is good enough to be the starter for years down the road then Ta'amu is immediately expendable. I'm sure you can find a back up DT/DE in the next draft or in the FA market.
