Being a Steeler means playing in the NFL.....and if the Steelers cut him...which I agree will most likely happen before next Sunday nights game.....he will get his check from another team after his law issues are behind him.

"You blew your chance McDonalds Fry guy......working here should mean something to you"

"Welcome to Burger King...would you like Fries with that"

Its a job to them...its a passion to us!

Ben should NOT have been cut because he was cleared. This guy will NOT be cleared. So was Ray Lewis. If it were my kid I would support whatever decision the Rooney's make about it. I'm from the south. When I was growing up if I did something bad my dad took a belt to my behind. That's the way we do things down here. When I was in school and did stupid things I got sent to the office and the principal paddled me right there in front of everybody. The reason he did that is because he had permission from my parents to do so. My son is only almost 2 years old but when he's old enough to know better I'm gonna carry the tradition my dad carried. I know that's not a popular thing in this country anymore but when I was growing up I never touched drugs or alcohol and still don't and haven't. I attribute that to the fact that I knew there were consequences for doing things I was told not to do. I think the reason crap like this happens in society is because we treat people like victims instead of what they are which is perpetrators and it's the REST of us that are victims of them. Not the other way around. I think this guy needs to face some circumstances if he really wants to be helped. I know that I have what is considered a primitive mind set but that's just the way I see things. I'm not trying to tell other people how to raise their kids but I am saying this is the way I would handle it if it were my son. I go to church with a guy who has a considerable amount of pull in our community. His son got a ticket once and came to him and said "dad I need you to get me out of this". He said "No. You done the crime and now you are gonna pay". That's the attitude I thin the Steelers should have in this. Nothing personal against anyone. Just my philosophy I suppose.

I am from the NORTH...lol...and its how we do things here too........you do the crime you do the time....He will be punished....you got paddled right in front of everyone....did you have to change schools or were you allowed to come back and graduate? When the kid asked his dad to get him out of the ticket...and the dad said no...you have to pay.....did he kick him out of the house too? I firmly believe that the Rooneys should say "son...you got yourself into this...but if you want help once you have served your debt to society then we will be there to help......but again..its after you have served your debt to society.

I am not saying he should not be punished for his crimes...I am saying after he serves his time...he will be allowed to continue on in his attempt at a profession.....why not in Pittsburgh vs NE?

I agree with everything you have posted BFT. It is about accountability and consequences for decisions. Many of us would not keep our jobs if we did some crap like this and had to go to the pokey. Football is just a job and this dude should be fired. Son or not doesn't change what this knucklehead did.

But you agree that after he is fired...he should be allowed to work again somewhere else correct?

Oh yeah I was allowed to graduate. It was the only way they could get rid of my mischevious little butt! LOL. But really though I don't think he deserves a second chance with the Steelers. That's just my personal opinion. It was also my opinion that we shouldn't draft Mike Adams and I'm DEFINITELY in the minority on that one. If I had known about the Rainey thing I wouldn't have wanted him either. I think you ought to represent your brand well and if you don't you oughtta hit the road. If he wants to pay his debt to society and try and fight his way back then more power to him. If he wants a spot on this roster he should get cut and have to earn it back. I would be for that. What I am not for is basically telling the guy "well go and do your time and when you come back there will be a nice roster spot waiting for you". I will say this though. When I look at these kids coming in to the NFL you gotta figure a lot of them are from inner cities and have NEVER had access to this kind of money. Then you just basically give them the world as their own oyster you gotta think that MAYBE they could find themselves in trouble. But still you have to use good personal judgement and OBVIOUSLY if he was running he knew that what he was doing was wrong. He willingly done what he done.

Surely if they thought Ray Lewis killed the guy they wouldn't have let him plea out of that. But then again...

He was running because he was mentally obstructed.....either by "drunk" or for all we know...he has come kind of chemical imbalance that causes it.

Remember Justin Strzelczyk? The Great Greg Lloyd shoved a loaded gun into his own sons mouth?

if they would come in in their prime..I would sign them both tomorrow to help the Steelers turn this season around.

They let Ray go....even though they thought he was also responsible for the mans death to get an actual conviction on the man with the actual knife.

Are you saying that you think he didn't know he was doing anything wrong? Didn't the report also say he tried to change his clothes as well? He is innocent until proven guilty IN A COURT OF LAW. In the court of which blountforcetrauma presides he is guilty as sin and should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. And given the fact that he apparently tried to run over a cop I'm pretty sure that he aint getting out of it. And not only did Lloyd do that to his son he also threatened his wife with a gun as well. I have no respect for him and I wouldn't want him either. He's a bad person and ANY person that would put a GUN IN A KID'S MOUTH oughtta be locked up to stay.

I didnt read all of the post but this is the first thing that went thru my mind when I saw the headlines. Never in my life, that I can remember anyways, has there been such a lack of discipline in the Steelers organization.

Or the LEAGUE for that matter. I bet if I really set here and thought about it I could think of 20 guys that have been in legal trouble. But still in the grand scheme of things these guys represent a small percentage of the league. But sometimes perception is reality and that's just the way it is.

In my opinion, if he does the time, then he should be able to seek whatever job he is qualified for based on his skills and abilities. No different than any other convict (assuming he gets convicted). He can seek a job but there has to be someone willing to employ him. Would that someone be the Steelers? Who knows. Our God is all about second chances, but not without consequences and accountability. I wish this young man well and hope he gets his life on track. I am not judging as I've done my fair share of dumb stuff that has cost me opportunities and had to deal with the consequences.

.196 is actually pretty drunk. Drunk enough to affect most people's judgement and inhibitions. And don't forget that some people handle intoxication less than others.

Not excusing what he did at all. But he could have been affected pretty severely compared to you or I at the same BAC.

Either way, this isn't going to go down well. He's looking at some jail time unless he has one hell of a lawyer. And then Goodell will get his hands on him - probably at least an 8 game suspension. So for better or worse, he's going to lose a whole year of development when it's all said and done.

If we keep him, I really hope he learns from this and corrects his ways. He's lucky he didn't kill someone. For that matter, he's lucky the cops didn't shoot him.

I hope he didn't spend all his signing bonus on that vehicle, no more bonus, no more vehicle, no more job, at least until the Bungals/Raiders sign him.

...taking applications for future Steeler nost tackle.

Hey, why not give it a shot? It would be almost impossible for Goodell to fine you for 'helmet-to-helmet'!

Maybe I'd watch one of those worthless shows, if it were Steeler style!

People the Steelers are not going to cut him loose IF HE CAN PLAY,
Well I don't condone his actions, and he will get a pretty stiff penalty, the Steelers will have the best
lawyers money can buy for this kid and if he doesn't have a prior record, they will get his trial moved to off season
He will be put in the ARD program along with probation, and he will have to go to AA meetings
and probably do a lot of community service.
