There is nothing wrong with waiting but that doesn't mean I can't have an opinion.

What happens in court may or may not change my opinion and the opinions of others on the board.

come on guys. I had two DUI's and talked my way out of a third in one week. The Marine Corps let me stay and I did 30 years
If I had done that in the 80's vice the 70's I wouldn't have been allowed to stay. Give the guy a break

Ok, you're right. He is a saint and they should just drop all of the charges against him. How dare the cops try to stop him! H should have run them over and then cracked another beer.

The Steelers should let Mike Wallace go and cut Ben so they can back a Brinks truck up to Ta'amu's house and fill it with cash.

What he's saying is he still turned out to be a viable member of the military for 30 years no matter what mistake he made. The atmosphere now is fry the bastard before he even sees the judge.

he has a guarenteed contrat with the steelers anyway. so, they can not make a move until he goes to court and they find out about the charges. then the league will have a say so in it also, don't think they won't. so if and when it comes time for all his potential to play, it may be awhile. if he's breached anything in his contract, then the steelers may choose to make a move. right now they are paying him anyway. that's why he's back. he could be taken off the PS at anytime by a team, but his trouble and contract would go with him.[IMG]

Thanks for proving my point. Doesn't it bother you when people put words in your mouth? If you don't know what I'm talking about, read one of your posts a few up from this one. When did I say anything about taking him out and shooting him? Go ahead and find it, I'll wait right here.

    Agree to disagree, I'm done.

Obviously the Steelers think he can play, and are willing to give
him a chance to become a productive citizen and player?

Only you could think you actually proved a point there scott  You're the one who won't admit he made a mistake and is acting like he committed the worst offense imaginable. Whether you like it or not the kid made a mistake, whether you admit that or not its a fact.

Someone tell me logically why you wouldn't at least do the following:

    1. Let the legal procedure play out in court.
    2. Give him the chance to correct his past behavior and become a productive part of society.

My point was that it sucks having words put in your mouth.

You say that he made a mistake like it is a fact even though it is nothing but your opinon.

    Agree to disagree.

What he did is more than a mistake, its very serious. He's been living a destructive lifestyle, one that I too exprienced as a kid from my dad then latter lived that lifestyle as an adult. Now as a Christain man ( clean, dry ) I see things differently.

Should he have been re-signed? ABSOLUTELY!!! From a business standpoint we have a 4th & 6th rd picks invested in him. Part of his contract is gauranteed and his position is a future need And he does a world of potential, unrealized as it may be. From a personal standpoint we should have also resigned him because as a Club, a NFL Football team, you have to invest into people and not develop a reputation of treating players like "pure commodities" ready to be quickly disgarded like trash at the first sign of trouble. This is very key in our world of "Freeagency".

When should he be cut or not resigned? When he is bettered by another player on the field, when he becomes fiscally unfounded, when he becomes a team distraction/lockerroom cancer and or when he becomes a repeat offender after all efforts of help and aid has failed.

This is how I see it and now the ball is in Ta'amu's court. I'm praying he's doing everything he needs to fix his personal life first and secondly doing everything he can to be a serious contender to compete for NT starter in our next training camp.

Actually yes they can make a move and they already did it also. They can cut him anytime and move on. He's only gauranteed money, not a position on the team and the money he is guaranteed is not that much in reality as he was a 4th rd pick. You are correct that as a PS player he can be signed by ANY team in the league to their 53 man roster and everything associated with him goes with him.

It's a fact Scott but ok, lets try a different approach and get the focus back onto the meat of my original post, something you have been ignoring the whole time. Do you believe he deserves a second chance with us or should he be off the team?

Ok, so in your opinion, it is a fact and in my opinion, it is an opinion. Agree to disagree.

I haven't been ignoring anything. I think it is panifully clear that I don't think he should be on the team.

Exactly, which is why you are being so ridiculous in your argument that it wasn't a mistake. Everyone in their right mind would give this young man a second chance for making a mistake, having a drinking problem and making poor decisions when not of sound mind (under the influence). So you try and argue a mistake is not a mistake so you don't come across as a holier then thou type person. No Scott, I didn't think you really wanted him shot but you clearly think what he did is so terrible and unforgivable that he doesn't deserve a second chance. So I was not in fact putting words in your mouth. Maybe you haven't heard but the charges of trying to run down police have been dropped, why is that? I can't say that I ever got behind the wheel at double the limit like he did but I do know I drove plenty at that age when i shouldn't have and I'd wager that you have too. Had you as much to lose as Ta'amu, who knows, maybe you'd have used as poor as judgment as he did. But you'd rather not look at it like that, you'd rather sit in your glass house and cast stones. And don't bring up 2009, its the first time he's done this.

Mistake: an error in action, calculation, opinion, or judgment caused by poor reasoning, carelessness, insufficient knowledge

Well given the charges and what happened I'd say this was a little more than just a DUI. Thousands of people get stopped for DUI and they pull over and deal with the problem. My issue is he didn't stop, hit the gas ran hit cars as well as injuring someone. Than's not DUI that's Vehicular assault, hit and run, and eluding. Again that's more than DUI those are felonies. I like the kid and I was estatic that we drafetd him, given he is fromt he area I live in. But this isn't the Steeler way. We are a good team that holds our people accountable.

Hines was stopped and arrested for DUI. He delt with the issue like a true Steeler, not like a ratbird or a bungle.
