How do you know it’s not a grade 3?

It isn't as much of a disaster as last year because Godlen and Herbig are good, but nobody is close to Watt.

I think we are all speculating, but the report that he was trying to talk his way back in makes it seem unlikely that it was that bad.

    I can agree with that.
The other person totally dismissed it as a possibility. No one really knows at this point.

They will know more after an MRI. I doubt they had an MRI on it. Anything now is speculation

No, I don't think they would get one that quickly. It may have to wait until tomorrow morning.

He would not have wanted to go back in if it is a complete tear of the MCL…the movement of the knee when they do the exam would have shown him the level of injury. When they do the valgus test, he would have seen/felt the amount of laxity in the ligament and been in extreme pain and known it wasn’t a simple strain. I’m projecting somewhat based on my experience, but I’ve examined knees before and seen different positive tests where the patients could always tell it was bad when it was a grade 3. ACL’s and MCL tears can be tricky in their amount of pain, but the exam is pretty damn definitive if it’s a significant tear. The knee has a lot more laxity with a tear. It’s night and day for a positive vs a negative test. Of course, MRI confirms all.

Laxity is the loseness in the joint by the way.

I’m not reading all this. You don’t know what it is or what his mindset was/is

You know...worst case scenario he's out half of next season (feels unlikely). Best case he's back next week or the week after if they happen to advance. If he ends up missing the playoffs I'll be sad for him, but this team isn't winning a super bowl so I'll feel fortunate it wasn't a more catastrophic injury.

lol…ok. You’re right. I’m guessing based on 20 years of experience in doing knee exams as part of my specialty. But believe what you want. It’s a free world.

Exactly, you’re guessing. If you want to state an opinion that’s fine, but when you present it as a matter of fact with out examining the patient well…..

Well, I’m an orthopedic traumatologist…so I’m gonna go out in a limb that since, I was giving my opinion, without an exam, and without being there, I’m not going to get sued. Therefore, I believe it’s a grade 1, possibly grade 2. Very little chance of a 3 IMO based on what I read. However….i have seen things that make us all go WTF in 20 years on the job….

And yes, I was giving an opinion. Anyone saying anything on a message board is giving THEIR opinion.

Not the end of the world, but probably the end of any chance of us winning a playoff game. All the Herbig's and Golden's in the world don't equal one TJ Watt

But do we want to 1) risk his longer term health and 2) as great and important as he is, is he at say 75% better than Herbig at 100%? If he’s even at 75%?

Even with Watt, the Defense is so incredibly hurt, a good Offense would be problematic.
