One time in computer app class the teacher caught me cheating (I was a senior coasting on an easy but time consuming and very annoying class), and I was sent to the vice principal, who threatened me with a suspension but let me off with a warning because of my clean record. She had a floppy disk with records of every single assignment I'd cheated on. She told me she would dock me 50 points as a penalty. This was right at the end of the quarter. She took the 50 points as promised, but did not take away any of the points I earned by cheating! I don't know if she forgot or what, but she basically completely let me off the hook. My grade went from an A to an A-, but if she'd taken away the points I didn't earn I would have been thrust into D/F territory. I simply assumed she'd either cancel the points I got by cheating, or make me do the assignments again. She didn't, and I made an enormous profit. It was like stealing $1,000, paying a $50 fine, and keeping the rest of the loot. I got credit for doing like 20 assignments she knew I didn't do. I couldn't believe it. I didn't try to lie and was prepared to face the consequences, but there were none.

I don't dig the idea that those wins are as clean as other wins just because they haven't been penalized any more than I dig "It's not cheating if you don't get caught." There should be asterisks in the books, but that would look bad for the league. So they forfeited their 2nd draft pick one year and called it even. A $50 fine.

 

I agree with you guys, but it's useless saying it. Ben having 2 rings makes him great. Brady has 3 and he's overrated. Where's the fair application of a particular set of standards?
