A day we knew was coming, especially after the job Boswell was doing.

I wish him the best, loved the guy

“Unfortunately Shaun incurred a setback in his recovery from knee surgery that won’t allow him to compete in a timely manner,” said Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert.

    What's weird?

Maurkice Pouncey's 2015 injury situation was much, much weirder.

    Thanks for everything, Soosh.

In a statement, he called his knee injury "catastrophic" and "career threatening". Best of luck to him.

With a year to rehab, there shouldnt be a setback this close to camp, rehab for a torn ACL doesnt take a year then run into a second year, thats all i'm saying, It's frustrating when a player misses the entire regular season then cant be ready for the start of the next season, players with total blown out knees come back quicker than that......

Exactly....this was made to be an easy decision. Boswell did a great job...so there is no drop off there. Thank you suisham for a great job and great service

It's a shame his recovery isn't going well. It's one thing to lose your spot on a team. It's another to be facing possibly the end of your career. Best of luck to him.

It sucks and I wish him good luck and hope he recovers. I honestly think this could be it for him though if he misses 2 years as a kicker he will be pretty much forgotten about. People heal at different rates and for a kicker a blown ACL is a major injury

I agree that the job was probably Boswell's but I hate to see Suisham go out like this. I hope he can get his knee right and land a spot with another team.

This is the bad side of the NFL. Good accurate kicker for us, and an even greater person off the field. Good luck to you no matter what you decide on doing. :drinks:

I know we were going to keep Boswell over Suisham anyway ($), but it still sucks for him to go out this way. Best wishes to Shaun Suisham. Thanks for being a Steeler.

Best of luck to him. He turned into a very reliable clutch kicker during his time as a Steeler.

Now, can we PLEASE get a camp kicker to handle preseason kickoff duties? Pretty please with sugar on top Kev?

Tough break for Suisham, I wish him well. I was hopeful he would look good in training camp and maybe we could get a 6th or 7th round draft pick for him. Although I did see an article that showed that it was unlikely due to contract structure/ dead money.

Tough break for him, probably a blessing in disguise for us. Got a younger, cheaper and stronger leg.

Always liked him, though, did a good job. Good luck Shaun!

Some of these guys get insurance policies in case of injury. I hope he is one of them.

There's a lesson to be learned here if you're a kicker do not attempt to make a tackle in a preseason game.

Former Steelers K Shaun Suisham issued a statement to Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review regarding his release.

“Unfortunately, the injury I sustained in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game last preseason was catastrophic and has proven to be critical to continuing my career. My journey in the NFL has come to a crossroads.
"I was raised in Wallaceburg, Ontario, as a hockey player and have been on an improbable 16-year journey as a kicker, competing at the highest level. The absolute nature of my position has given me the opportunity to test my resolve, and I have grown both professionally and as a man.
“Undoubtedly, I will miss the challenge of game day and the preparation that is required. Change is hard, but I’m comfortable with where I am in life as a husband and father. “I will always be grateful to every team and coach that has given me an opportunity to compete in the NFL. I am especially grateful to everyone — teammates, coaches and fans — in our adopted hometown of Pittsburgh, Pa.”
