Born in Steubenvill OH, about 40 miles from Pitt. My first real season as a fan was in 2nd grade when Pitt beat Min.
A great decade to be a Pitt fan.
Just like a spoiled fan in 1979 when the Steelers and Pirates won, my son is 9 thinks Pitt is goes to the SB every other year, and that that Steelers/Pens in 2008 is a common event.

I live in NY now for 20+ years-----Jets/Mets/Ranger fans endure decades of droughts-----Gotta love being a Pitt fan.

Since 1972. I have vivid memories of the 4 Super Bowl wins in the 1970s and that remains in my mind the greatest sports team anyone could be lucky enough to root for.

I have been a steelers fan since 1971 when I arrived in Pittsburgh to start a new job.

you know, I understand what you are saying, but for me, those 4 Super Bowl wins have earned a free ride from me for this franchise for life. I suspect my reasons are more personal for this; the last 2 Super Bowls came during a time when I was struggling with my family's move, and I was the only Steelers fan amongst the kids at my new school. Most were Dallas fans, so the victory in SB XIII was especially sweet- I'll never forget coming into school the next day and seeing their faces.
30+ years later, I think this-
those teams are more respected now then they were then- go back and read the old preview magazines, no one ever picked them to win it all, it was always Dallas or the Raiders or the Rams
when your team wins when you are a kid, it means more to you than when you are an adult.

At least that is the way it is for me.

Anyway, I am glad to see there are a lot of fans here who can recall the 70s, because I love to reminisce about those days. Still, I am also grateful for the 2 recent Super Bowl wins, because it has given a whole new generation of Steelers fans a sense of what it was like back then.

The reason I became a Steeler's fan was because of my old man. He passed away December 15, 2011 and I miss him.

Because I was born and raised and continue to live in Steeler country. Also because, why would any sane person be a fan of any other team!
