A good signing indeed as Nelson had a career year! 4 Interceptions and 15 pass breakups! Pittsburgh also met him at his Pro Day at Oregon State in 2015.
Seems as if we finally got the guy at cornerback. With that aspect done, this now indirectly confirms on which position Pittsburgh is going after in the draft. I am still not ruling out surprises like Hakeen Butler or even D.K. Metcalf if he is within striking distance but the signing of Steve Nelson has given many all the information they need.
Pittsburgh has the ammunition to trade up this season. No excuses Kevin Colbert. Get that impact defensive player!
Really , signing a horrible cornerback in free agency gets you that excited?
Seriously why do we target players that nobody else wants Day 1?
okay don't know anything about Steven Nelson, also don't remember him when we played the Chiefs, so what's the scoop with this guy.?
Colbert is in a major slump right now
We are gonna need to get a beast pass rusher to pair with Watt so that Baker can't throw the ball to OBJ and a tackling machine at ILB to stop Kareem Hunt(once he is reinstated)
While the dawg pound is popping the champagne, I may turn to drinking a lot this season just to cope
I mean, solid player. Much better than anything we had over there in recent years. If our huge reach of a first rounder last year gets drastically better, the secondary could be decent. Here comes Bush in round 1.
He was ranked the 33rd best corner in the league. He is n upgrade. All that matters to me
Hope its White instead of Bush in round 1. Give up our extra 3 rd rounder and move up maybe 5 or 6 places to get White.
upgrade but can he cover Odell
Haden can. I dont know if Nelson can or not. Wasnt a chiefs fan. I dont think Odell is all that great anyway but he did make a one handed catch
Chiefs secondary was abysmal.. this isn't huge news in my opinion. Typical Bargain Bin signing for us.
He'll cover Landry
Haden cannot cover Odell. Ramsey couldn't even cover him.
No player was tested more in coverage this season than Nelson, who was targeted 113 times in total during the regular season. He responded with a career-best grade of 72.1 – making him an intriguing free agent option at the age of 26
-20 forced incompletions (T-2nd, CB) -4 interceptions (T-3rd) -53.1% reception allowed % (T-8th) -82.8 passer rating against (24th) -2018 Grades: 72.1 overall, 71.2 coverage (both 28th)
Ooohhhh Ramsey couldn't! Let's induct him into the hall now then. Please man.
Established player. Over 8 million per year though?
That's a big gamble and our track record evaluating CBs is not great.
Does this eliminate CB as a possible option at #20? I would think so.
Yupp. They probably go receiver or mlb.
No I'm just saying Ramsey is the best corner in the NFL by far. You saw what he did to AB
Ramsey did handle AB as well as anybody did.
Did some digging
Pro football focus had him ranked 21st overall CB in league and 5th in their top 10 CB free agents
One good thing about this signing, it gives them options #20, could be TE, WR, ILB.
I would think so with Haden on one side and that kind of investment in Nelson.
