None of them are in the same situation. Watt is in the best player on the team. He's in the discussion for best defensive player in the NFL. Smith-Schuster isn't even the best receiver on his own team. More importantly, he tested the free-agent market and it was nowhere near as robust as he thought it would be. That wouldn't have been the case if Watt had been a free agent this offseason. He would have gotten a massive contract, more than he will end up getting from the Steelers. This is inarguable among the sane.

In all seriousness I get it from TJ Watt’s point of view, But I just want these guys to all get on the same page and put their hand in a pile and do everything possible to win a championship.

This is a thread about Stephon Tuitt, why do you have to interject Watt into every discussion?

Of course not, It's Tomlin and the Cupcake Factory...And their mental and physical fortitude show when the chips are done ( like the Cleveland game )

The fold up like a cheap chair...

It's not your decision to make, the Steelers organization is good with him taking his time, TJ didn't lose a sibling and he's not practicing.

I don't think that will happen since he restructured his contract, Heyward said Tuitt will be ready to go FWIW.

Matt Williamson was saying today that Tuitt is just not tuned in to football because of the tragic loss of his brother, has put on some extra weight etc. I can’t imagine what he is going through, I’ve never suffered anything even remotely comparable.

I totally get the business side and they need him back on the field. I’m sure the team is working with him to make that happen.

The players aren't getting their salaries during training camp, I think it's ridiculous for fans to try to compare what happened in their personal lives to athletes, you're more expendable to your employer than a talented athlete like Tuitt.

I haven't heard any other member of the media mention his weight, if true then that could be why he isn't practicing.

Williamson just said it in passing on the radio, didn’t give any details. It would make sense, I’m sure diet and working out took a bit of a back seat for a while after what happened.

I’ve no doubt he will be back at some point but I can’t imagine he makes the Buffalo game after hardly practicing with the first team

    Only for about 5 years.
Also Humans are Humans. I think it's fine 2 compare. They play football. They are not God's. We Have all lost love ones, and had 2 go back 2 work. Believe me.
I wish it didn't happen, but it did, and does.

Or he's not. I mean, I agree with you that if he's not injured, it's time to get back to work.

You brought up a good point about his mental health while he's sorting all this out. I don't think it's healthy for anyone to let a terrible situation define them. If I had something traumatic happen to me or my family, even if I could afford to wallow in self pity, the longer I let that control me, the longer and more difficult battle I would have getting back to living.

I obviously have no idea what he's going through and am not trying to diminish the pain and suffering he and his family are enduring. But getting back to work, doing what he does best, and being around his football family must be a better healing process than not.

If the Steelers organization is okay with it, why are fans worried about it?

All of the media that attended training camp I haven't heard one person say it looked like he added weight.

Neither TJ or Tuitt have missed anything meaningful. So, no issue yet. I'm sure both will be ready for the regular season. But if Tuitt is so distraught that he can't focus, and is letting his weight go (I don't know if this is true, but people have posted it), then they need to get his some counciling or something. Maybe they have. For his own personal good, not just the teams.
